Kim, I am thinking of and praying for you and your beautiful little Smudge--what a darling he is! I so so hope the test is negative and that he will get strong and healthy again. You are certainly being a wonderful mom to him and getting him the best possible care. Love to think of him happily snoring away in your lap!
Wishing you all the best....and give Smudge a big kitty snuggle from me! GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS...please keep us posted!

We all love your lil Smudge so much. It's good that you have taken care of him and that the family has gotten so much pleasure from him.

Oh shoot, I don't know what to say........

Smudge we love you!

Everyone, I can't say how much your words of encouragement mean. That's exactly what it's done...give me courage for the road ahead.

Now...what to do with him - he seems to want to eat this morning, but I put down 3 kinds of wet food, and baby food, and tried a little deli ham (I shouldn't because of the salt, actually) but won't eat anything. Anyone have any tempting ideas? (He seems to have a little trouble swallowing.)

Is there any chance that if you sat him on your lap and hand fed him he would at least lick some of the food off your fingers?

Is he drinking? I agree with trying the food on the fingertip trick, but you can also take the baby food and dilute it with water so it can be drunk. If you really can't get him to eat, you can see about getting some hills a/d canned food which can be finger fed (messy!) or syringe fed, or some nutrical which you can try placing a bit of on his lips or paw for him to lick off.

I just found this thread, and oh my! Kim, I'm so sorry you are going through all of this with beautiful Smudge. He's always been a "favorite" of mine on these boards, and I'm so sad for you and your baby that you are going through all of this. Prayers and Hugs to your little guy, and
to you, too.

I tried once, but it was refrigerated because it had been opened. I don't think he likes that - I think that when it's cold it doesn't have the flavor or the smell or something. I'll let it sit a bit and have my husband try again.

Hubby reports that he's just sitting, but when he scratched his ears, it made him purr.

We usually put the food into the microwave for a few seconds to warm it up. It usually brings out that "wonderful" aroma that cat food has.
