They seem to be trying to outdo each other with the names these days. Maybe it's just a ploy to get some attention?

I think they're mostly afraid of getting their butts sued off if they pick something that's too close to someone else's name...

United Booty Foundation (disco band)

Uncle Plum

Tryptic Soy

Eleven foot Seven

that's all I can think of as far as local bands go.

We had a local band (never saw them) called `Rocks' - so whenever there was a sign up or poster about them it would read `Tonight Rocks!' or `Next Friday Rocks!' or something like that....dags....

I have heard of that band.
Bowling for Soup is another funny one.

The best band name I have heard in a long time is "Eagles Of Death Metal". The title of their first album is "Peace. Love. Death metal." And it's pink and baby blue. They obviously ain't right. hehe
They're a pretty decent band, though.

Are you kidding? Having grown up in the era of such bands as Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Fine Young Cannibals, The Sex Pistols, etc, etc, nothing suprises me anymore.

Maybe at this point every thing has been taken? The generation of Meaningless names has found its nitch? But i still can guess a Metal band from an alternative name, or such. They seem to go downs veins of simular characteristics.

Funny you should ask:
In Wayne, NJ, where several members of the band grew up, there is a large store that sells fountains, like the kind you'd put in your garden, and the store is called Fountains of Wayne. Its enormous, and the sign for it is huge and right on a major highway. Its a pretty cheesy place frequented by your typical, or should I say stereotypical, Sopranos-esque gold chained North Jersey guido types (no offense meant to anyone, as a certified South Jersey guido offspring myself I can say these things)

I'm guessing the band found the store amusing enough to steal their name!
