My cat has had a problem for most of her life and the vet is puzzled by it and said not to worry about it. I don't like that answer!

She has these weird pieces of hard SOMETHING that will grow out of her pads on her feet. I will sometimes even notice her favoring one foot and then I'll notice that one has grown out quite a bit and is sharp. I can clip them off with a baby nail clipper but do not want to try to pluck them from her pads. They almost look like human baby fingernails! NE1 ever heard/dealt of such a thing?

do you have pictures? I'm thinking polydactyl, but probably not. Polydactyls just have an extra finger(s) with nails.

YES!!!!!! That's exactly what her pads are like....with little horny type growths that look like under developed nails! Thanks! Now I am going to print that info. out and drop it by my vets office and ask them what can be done for it. I don't think they cause her pain but they are for sure uncomfortable!

BTW, she is also a polydactyl and has thumbs. My dh says we should have named her Bigfoot!

i'm assuming she has not been declawed? i'm asking because my first cat, who was declawed, actually grew back one of them. however, the vet knew what it was, so if that were the case, i guess yours would've known, too.
