Conjunctivitis

My cat seems to have a case of conjunctivitis or pink eye. The areas below his eyes surrounding either side of his nose are very pink and raw and have been so for years. His eyes seem to water a lot and eventually a crusty, scabby puss-like substance will harden around his lower eyes and nose.

I've heard that this can be treated with a regular eye dropped for humans, but that sounds a little questionable to me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Firstly, do not treat your cat with human remedies. Secondly, if this has been like this for years, why have you not had it treated sooner. If this is pink eye, a vet can give you the correct treatment to clear it up and you should have it done sooner rather than later. One of our other members here has recently had a similar experience with her cat and once treated by the vet the situation cleared up.

Please take your cat to the vet as soon as possible and have it diagnosed and treated as it must be very uncomfortable for your kitty. I'm certain that if your eye had been like this you would not have allowed it to continue for years.

Please, please do right by your kitty and take him/her to a vet now.

Cotton was diagnosed with a mild case of conjunctivitis in his right eye. The vet gave us an eye ointment to administer twice a day. It's only been a couple of days so we haven't seen an improvement yet, but we're going to stay with it.

I guess off to the vet it is...

He's just been this way for so long that we became used to it and considered it normalcy.
