I have 2 cats, I've had them for a few months now, they were born back in the spring. About a month ago I started keeping my bedroom door shut so I can sleep peacefully (as before they'd keep me up and get me up early).

A few weeks ago, one of my cats started scratching at the door in the mornings. I didnt' think much of it until it started creating a bald spot in the carpet. I tried to put folded tape along the door and it would help protect the carpet, but it would not detur her, eventually the tape would come up and she'd scratch underneath it.

Does anyone know why she's doing this? And if anyone has any other ideas to either stop her from doing it and/or a better way to protect the carpet, thanks!

I don't know how much space you have under the door, but if there's enough clearance to could put down some plastic carpet runner in the doorway and extending out into the hall.
