My mom's vet suggested to give Piper Pecid AC - however it only comes in Pill form which had to be compounded into a liquid suspesion so she can take it - tried pills NO WAY!!!

My question is how about Mylanta - it comes in a liquid form already - Has any one had experience with Mylanta???

I am not sure that Mylanta is safe for cats, but bottom line is that Pepcid is famatodine, and Mylanta is a different med altogether. I'd not give it without consulting vet...stay with what has been prescribed.

Although 1/3 of a tab of pepcid can be given to a cat after a vet approves it the same cannot be said of mylanta. Please contact your vet before giving the cat anything over the counter

Actually the doseage when one is talking crf kitties is 1/4 of a tab...and it must be the pepcid ac original strength, not the extra strength (which I believe are 20 mg instead of 10 mg) and not the chewable pepcid.

And never given without a prescription...I figured there was one here since this member was having it compounded.

Hissy, not necessarily! It may be a different dose when prescribed for kitties with normal kidneys
I was guessing that maybe this member was using it for a crf kitty, and thought I'd go into the whole thing re pepcid ac vs the chewable...etc.

Thanks all - Piper has had a very sensitive stomach all her live- all the test were done to make sure there is no major underlying cause such as kidney failure - so the Vet suggested we give her Pecid AC, which he compounded for us. Piper is to use it on an as needed basis since pilling this cat is an absolute horror!!! Just thought of Mylanta because it was already available in liquid form and don't worry we are sticking to what is prescribed by the Vet and what is best for her!
