My cat has habitual licking problems. I recently bought Feliway and we are trying it. Today her e-collar got loose and she was able to have two hours alone and created a bunch of fresh new hot spots. What do you folks think of bitter apple? I don't want her stuck with an e-collar forever, it's her lower thigh so it would be difficult to put any kind of clothing on her. I would like to use medications as an absolute last resort. Thanks for your thoughts.

My dogs weren't bothered by bitter apple. But then they eat anything. I've never tried anything else or tried bitter apple on my cat so I would see what the vet recommends. Is she licking her fur off in a certain area? When my dog did that she was having some kind of allergy problem and needed vet care.

Yes. She is licking her thigh areas and causing sores. The Vet has taken two samples of the sores and had them examined by a dermatologist who said they were not caused by allergies, bug bites, etc. Basically they seemed to be caused by the mere fact that she was licking the area too much, which suggested she might be obsessive. When I take her e-collar off, she generally will immediately try to lick that area. Thanks for your tips, I'll give the Vet a call on Monday.

I tried bitter apple as a plant deterrent and it was effective only as long as it was damp. I don't know if it would work the same on a cat, though.
