Hey all. I was just wondering if anyone here was good with a sewing machine.

My machine was given to me by my mother a few years ago. I just started taking a beginner sewing class (its been awhile). Well Thursday my machine was running so perfect!! Well today I go and I try to do a pillow (practice makes perfect, right?) and my bobbin keeps jamming. I've adjusted the tension countless times and it keeps jamming no matter what... I went tight to where it didn't move and slowly loosened it (so time consuming it isn't funny) and it still keeps jamming. I don't understand what I could be doing wrong!!!! Its set up like I did in class and its just being so naughty it isn't funny.

Anyone have some ideas??

(my machine is from the early 80s.... from Montgomery Ward.... is that even still in production??? lol)

The tension may be not working properly now?> I am no expert but my mom is forever reminding not to touch thr tension so I kind of avoid it like the plague! You may have to reser=t it to its default somehow and start over.

Good luck!

You might also try looking to see if there is lint anywhere in the bobbin mechanism causing it to jam. If you have been using is a lot, that might be a problem - at least it has been for me.

Adjusting bobbin tension is very very tricky. I have taken my machine into a store for service to get it adjusted properly.

Yeah I quit. I'm going to have my teacher do it Tuesday. She's been sewing for years.

The company doesn't make machines anymore.... they stopped in 84.....

Eeps!! Okay so mine is younger lol.

I'm just wondering why the company isn't making their machines anymore.

Why couldn't my mom have given me her singer or brothers.... LOL

Not putting the bobbin in backwards, are you? LOL
The thread could be on the bobbin too loose. Could be felty-lint accumulating under the bobbin like was said on here before.
Are you sure the machine is threaded correctly and not "caught up" someplace it does`nt belong? (Usually that will cause the upper thread to break though, but it can cause problems with the bobbin too.)
What kind of fabric are you sewing on and what kind and size of needle are you using? The wrong needle can cause major sewing problems.
If you have messed too much with your tension then you may have to take it in to a repair shop and have them take a look at it. Usually they will look for free or a small fee and then will call and tell you what the prob is and how much the repair would be before you make the decision whether to repair or buy new.
Hope it works out well for you...either way!

Aggghhh, sounds like the timing. I've got an inexpensive Brother machine in my closet that needs the timing adjusted. But a "tune-up" will cost $75 and the dang thing only cost a couple hundred to begin with! And yes, it can sew fine one day, and the next the fardling timing will be off!!!

Don't get too frutrated with yourself. This summer I spent hours searching out fabrics to match my kitchen. I finally found 2 I like (2 sided curtain, both show). I bring it to show my boss, an expert seamstress, she tells me they will not work together because one is cut on the bias.

If you try all the above and it fails, wind a fresh bobbin, put it in the machine and try it out on some scrap material. Until you get this fixed, don't use anything other than scrap material or you will be throwing money away.

What type of thread are you using??? Sometimes that will jam up the bobbin!!! Or it could be the fabric you are sewing on??? My machine (Viking) will jam up every know and then and a tune up is$100!! (for a $300 machine).
