I had a bad night night last night i dreamed of jake that i woke up and he could not walk and i had to take him to the vet and i was there till he took his last breath i am so scared and i don't know if i will be strong enough to be by his side when that day comes i don't know if i could watch him go to sleep and never wake up I just know the day when he can't walk to longer i would not want him to suffer. I don't even know if i could do that with my kitty cats Could any of you do something like that was your beloved pet take there last breath

I read your other thread....I`m so sorry that your Jake and you are going through this.
It is apparent that you love him very much...and you can trust that love to lead you to do whatever is best for Jake when the time comes...you`ll just "KNOW" what and when.
In the meantime...enjoy every minute...and DO make an album...what a WONDERFUL idea!
Please share some of your pics with us here too on TCS.
You and Jake are in our prayers....and we are here for you!
Linda

It's very very sad, to be the guardian of pets who are suffering. My sister had to have her dog put down earlier this year, and it broke her heart. They knew for months in advance, and spent their time with the dog just loving her, lying on the floor cuddling her, and giving her all the special attention and treats that would make her happy. I think that a website is a lovely idea.

I think that dream is a good thing. I think you are getting yourself ready for the difficult times ahead. When my mother was dying, I had all sorts of dreams like that, picturing various situations, and my counsellor told me it was "anticipatory grieving", normal, healthy, and to be expected.

It is an awful time to go through - I spent the two weeks between being told there was nothing more they could do for my cat and taking her for the last time in tears and barely sleeping, as I had to decide when she no longer had any quality of life. You do know though, and I like to be with mine till the end, I feel I owe it to them to go with someone who loves them rather than alone at the vets - my neighbour got the vet to come to her this year for her dog, she preferred it. Making a photo album is an excellent idea though, you may not be able to look at it at first, but in time you can look back at it and smile.

Animals do know when something is wrong. You'll have to be reassuring them as well as yourself. That's a lovely photo.

Sorry about your dad. We had lots of time with Mom, and it did help a lot. It was gruelling to look after her medical care, but we were well prepared when the end came, and it was peaceful.

It really should help a lot with Jake, to know that you are loving him and doing everything to make his life easier at this point.

I am so sorry to hear about Jake!! We had a cat named Buttons who had a bad heart. Toward the end, I had taken her for a weekly checkup and the vet asked me how she was doing. I looked at her and said,"she doesn't eat, she doesn't pee and she never comes out from under my bedroom covers. The vet looked at me and asked if this was the kind of like I wanted for Buttons. At the time I wanted her anyway I could get her. Took another week for me to let her go.

I didn't mean to tell you this to make you cry I just wanted to tell you that YOU will KNOW when the time is right. I will keep You and your husband and Jake in my prayers.

Your comment about not being sure if you can be there during his last breath.

The day my poodle Brandi passed away..I was not there for her. That morning when I was getting ready for school I noticed that she was following me around everywhere and that was odd because usually she's always around my mom. I didn't really pay any attention I just pretty much blew it off.

When my mom picked me up from school she was in tears. She told me Brandi was dead and my jaw just dropped. I didn't even get to see her. None of us were there when Brandi died so she took her last breath alone. To this day I still feel guilty for that. I wasn't there when they had to put my other poodle Sandy to sleep.

None of us were there when they put Sandy to sleep so the last image he saw were of people that he doesn't know in uniform rather than people he loves.

Just something for you to think about. If you still don't think you can be there when this does happen..I completely understand because it really is big on the emotions.

I will be praying for Jake.
