Hi there!

I just got my 5 day-old kitten up for his bottle and noticed his little butt is bleeding and I see the fesces (sp?) coming out but I'm afraid he may be constipated.... Could it be something else??????? I'm freaking out a little here....
What can I give him if he's constipated? Someone mentioned pumpkin pie filling because of the fiber. Could that work??
Plus: Can kittens at that age pur??? I swear to God, I think he purs but I also think he's too young to do so...

Thank you for your help!

Mine purred quite lustily at 7 days.

This is gross I know but what is the consitency of the wee ones poo? What color is it?

Mine had a similar problem. It was diarrea caused by ringworms. My vet prescibed some wormer and an antibiotic and it's clearing up.

Healthy baby poo should be the consistency of toothpaste and brown. Lots of things can cause diarrea from parasites to bacterial infection to overfeeding. The near constant contact on their sensitive skin can cause bleeding. so can rubbing too long when helping them to eliminate.

Triple antibiotic ointment will help his butt. There are things you can do if it is constipation. But make sure first.

Actually it was roundworms not ringworm. Ringworm is a fungus on the skin and has nothing to do with the poop.

Your kitten has it been seen by a vet? Blood in the stool can be parasites, or it can be a major health issue. If he is pooping, it is likely he is not constipated, but you can add more water to his formula if the stools are hard. KMR is hard for kitties to digest sometimes.

But if there is blood, you should see a vet in the morning just to be safe.

Hissy is quite right.

The lack of sleep is beginning to show a bit I think.

I strongly second taking him to the vet asap.

There is no blood in his stool... Just the but is very red. The consistency of the poo is pale to dark brown. He's been on KMR since birth so it may be a bit hard for him to eliminate. We'll keep a really good eye on him.
Thank you everybody for your advice!

Ringworms are a skin parasite. They are very contageous and are spread by contact with an animal or person who has them.

Roundworms can be spread by contact with contaminated fecal matter or by the mother if she has them.

Oh! I'm using diaper rash cream for my Moogle. He's 11 days old and has a raw bleedy butt too. It seems to be helping him feel a bit better. He's also on the wormer and an antibiotic.

Are you taking your wee one to the vet today?

Good luck from another bottle mommy!
