What do you think about my idea, to give old/sick cats, they did not have luck in their live, for their last time to give a home like a hospice. My imagination is, to give them for their last months/weeks/days warmth and a feeling to be beloved. (I hope, it is understandable, what I mean. Sorry for my English.)

That is a very sweet thought.

That would be so lovely. Are you thinking of doing this yourself?

That would be nice. Maybe you could write to some of the places in the United States and get some ideas from them?

Captiva, just, at THAT moment, I thought about that. And I am sure, I find other people here, they did not have this idea yet and want to help. Thank you.

There's no place like home
There are 2 women I know in Kansas City that do mostly old cat rescue. They allow them to live out their days in dignity in their home. PM if you want me to try to hook them up with you.

Sounds very difficult, but also very rewarding. You would need a vet who will work with you to treat the animals at a discount (less cost). Otherwise it would get so expensive treating them as they age, you couldn't afford it!

It is a very good thing to do, and something I would like to do if I ever have the space and money to do it - as it is, I only take on elderly cats as fosters - this years vet bill so far (minus frontline) has been around £500 - last year, one cat had 4 blood tests at £60-£70 a go, a dental at £166 and antibiotics etc - very expensive, and no wonder I can't afford hols and a car, but I wouldn't change it. I now have a vet that appreciates how much I spend, so will only charge me for lab costs for the blood tests, and not the consultation fee.

It could get expensive. But it would depend on if you're doing rescues or retirements. The difference being that people pay for their older cat to retire to your establishment, while the rescues would be your expense. I know a lot of people probably wouldn't see the sense in possibly paying several thousand dollars for his or her cat to live out his days somewhere else and not in his home, but if they have a job with frequent travel, odd hours to work, young boisterous children or other issues along with a geriatric cat that may have health problems that require frequent care for instance, it may be in the best interests of the cat to send them to such a place if they can afford it.
