What do you think of this? Does it violate rights of football fans or does it protect them?

I would have to think about this one. I would normally side with personal human rights but, on the other hand, I am regularly patted down and my bag is searched when I go see a concert in my home city here.. so I am used to it.
Here they aren't worried about weapons etc, but rather recording equipment and drugs and drink...which I think the alcohol issue is a bit ridiculous considering 1) the price of the ticket and 2) the markup they put on the alcohol prices!

Do these people fly, or take other means of public transportation? Attend concerts? People who do so also pay, but are nevertheless searched for security reasons, a.o., and if an exception is made for season-ticket holders to football games, where will the lawsuits end? Sorry, but I don't sympathize. I realize that "football" in the U.S. isn't synonymous with "football" in Europe (or on other continents), but searches to disarm potential "football hooligans" are a matter of course in countries outside the U.S.. Stadiums make such wonderful targets for attacks, too.

Tricia, I agree with you. The way the world is today it makes perfect sense. Now if they were doing it to prevent fans from bringing in their own drinks, snacks, etc. it would be a different story.

Oh get over it! Any time I attend a concert, hockey game (which I cannot bring my keys in to, because I have a Micra-Leatherman on it, which has a 3/4" scissors on it), and even some nights at a night club, we regularly get patted down. The hockey thing was new after 9/11 that they really searched, but I never felt violated.

The ACLU and this guy both need to get their priorities straight. A sporting event is a PRIVATELY OWNED enterprise, just as a concert is. It isn't a public event because you have to purchase tickets. It's the same as going to a private party, there just happens to be 75,000 (plus or minus, Invesco Field hold around 76,000) other people there. If this guy objects that strongly to the pat-downs, he has every right in the world to stop giving the owners of the event his money by giving up his season tickets.

Didn't see this post. We are not allowed to bring in any outside food or drink to NHL, NBA, AFL or Lacross games here. We can, within reason (i.e. a 12" x 12" bag to NFL and MLS games) to NFL, MLS, and MLB games. I believe that is the facility owner's call. Pepsi Center doesn't allow it. Invesco Field at Mile High and Coors Field do.

We live in a post 9-11 world and people need to remember that.
These people and the ACLU that are objecting to the pat-downs would be the FIRST in line to file a lawsuit if something happened. Lame.
