Hello All,

Past experiences have shown me that as our feline companions age they may not be able to eat hard food. So I would like to incorporate some wet food into their diets. Their ages range from 13yrs to 1yr 7mos., I have tried ProPlan and Whiskas with no success. Any suggestions on how I can encourage my kitties to eat wet food.

Have you tried some of the pouch foods with the gravy? Sakura used to hate wet food until i discover she loved the gravy. After that i just tried different brands and mashed it up with a fork a bit until i noticed her eating all of her food. She still wont touch any other kinds of wet food tho but its a start.
Im sure someone else will give you more adivise that you could try also.

One of my three cats isn't as crazy about wet food as the other two. So I give her a smidge of it twice a day (when the other two get theirs) and I empty the "gravy" (juice) from the can into her bowl on top of the smidge. You might try pouring the gravy over your cat's kibble to start with, to get her used to the taste of it.

Another thing I do with my cat is to sit with her while she eats, talking softly and petting her a bit. Sometimes the two wet-food lovers will crowd the third one away from her bowl (so they can get her food) and so she usually won't eat unless I'm there with her.

Like any other change you undertake, go slow. You can upset your cat's tummy if you make abrupt switches.

I recently adopted a 9-year-old torti named Odd who was a dry food addict. Since the other 3 cats in her new family all eat canned, we decided to attempt to transition her. We took it VERY slowly, choosing a canned food flavor that was particularly appealing to my other 3 and mixing a tiny amount of it with her dry food on the 1st day. I just used enough canned food to lightly coat the dry. Every day after that, I gradually increased the amount of canned food and decreased the amount of dry food in the mixture...after one month, she is eating all canned like her brother & sisters. She is VERY picky about the flavors she will eat (last night she turned down Chicken & Lobster!) but we've found 4 or 5 she likes & I stick with those. Hope this helps!

Funny, I was about to post the same question! My Freckles will nibble at wet food then walk away, even if I feed him away from the other cat. I've tried the store brands and currently using the Nutro Max. Nothing seems to get his interest, even after dental surgery (when I thought he'd have to eat wet). I'll try mixing it with the dry and see if that works.

I don't mean to be overly simple here, but have you tried a few different types? My Marat won't touch the "pate" style wet food, but the flakes style he will. Oh he still prefers his kibble, but he can put down the flake style too when lured also by the right flavor. My point is, try a few different types, but not just different flavors. You might tap into one he just can't resist.

I don't believe tomatoes/tomato sauce are good for kitties, nor is garlic.
