in heat?

We have a 6 month (or older) kitty and recently she has been walking around meowing and when someone walks by she wll lay down. stick her hind in the air and move her tail.. is this normal? thanks!

Those are good symtoms she is going into heat. Female Cat's mature faster than Males and can go into heat as early as 5 month's.

She is in heat. Call the vet first thing in the morning to make an appointment for her to be spayed. In the meantime, keep her strictly indoors and away from all unneutered male cats. I mean this - do whatever it takes. If you think she might slip out accidentally, keep her confined to a space in your house that is away from the door.

Yes, exactly.

The risk is VERY big she will sneak out in hope of finding a cat tom. Frankly, she may do almost anything to sneak out now especielly if there IS a tom nearby. And there is if there are toms in neighorhood. They feel the smells and feromones.
Therefore It isnt enought to have normal carefullness.

And out there she meets many dangers, feks run over a car,
or meet a evil human - with her behaviour now she has no normal defences...

Many cats, male or female, never returns from their love seeking, or returns mor or less badly hurt. By cars, other cats, evil people. whatever.

Oh yeah .. your girl is looking for a man ... I went through this with Pooh. I was so clueless about cats back then (2001) I swore she was dying ! Needless to say she and her sister were hustled off for a spay. Pooh wasn't even 6 months old !

Oh, that is definitely your little girl being in heat! If you have any other kitties, you might want to separate them until she goes in to get spayed. Other than that, don't worry!! Your baby will be just fine. She's just becomming a woman now. Lol...

Your vet may not spay her until she gets out of heat. There is a risk to spaying during a heat cycle so your vet will tell you his policy on this. But keep her indoors, or soon you will have more than one cat to deal with.
