My cats don't really need soft paws any more since they've learned not to scratch the furniture, but I'm tempted to order some now just because...

Check these out!

I *love* soft paws- my cats don't scratch the furniture intentionally, but sometimes while jumping onto the arm of the couch or the like I hear their nails scrape it. AND Alcott hates it when I close him out of a room, and tends to scratch at the door. I wouldn't have gotten cats were it not for soft paws, I'm def. going to order Dove Gray, the Multi Pack, and maybe the orange and black ones! I don't know about Orange and Black, what with it already being mid-October....you can bet they'll have those Xmas ones though.

If you do, I'd love to see a picture. I think those orange caps would look great on a black cat!

OT: I went
when I first saw soft paws on TV. It's 100% better than declawing of course, but are you guys sure they won't bother your kitties? I don't know, never seen any cats wearing them. They just seem somehow uncomfortable.

When PB had them on the first time-- he was a baby kitten-- he was too busy playing to notice--( we also gave plenty of treat and love during and after putting them on so it would be a good experience) he never licked or even noticed them-- We dont use them anymore now because PB knows that scratching furniture isnt allowed and he doesnt do it-- He never really did it ever but i just wanted to nip the future possible problem in the bud so hubby wouldnt throw a fit.

They must be pretty comfy-- PB never seemed to be in any discomfort with them. It was super easy to put on and they shed off just like their regular non covered nails.

I know when i put softclaws on my BIL's cat (1 yr old) we had to distract the cat for about 30 minutes to make sure that the glue was good and dried-- even then he managed to chew them off-- I think it just bothered him as it was something new. If and when we get another kitten/cat i will use softpaws to train them too--

PB wore the clear ones-- You almost didnt notice them if you werent looking. Here is a picture of PB with some of his softpaws on-- some had shed off and i hadnt replaced them yet....
notice the shells over some of his front claws.. some shine in the light of the flash on that photo...

Yes, they are 100% better than surgery!

They don't interfere with the claws being extended or retracted. It's just that with the colored soft paws, you can see the claw when you usually can't see it, so it looks like they're sticking out more than usual.

I've used them on four different cats ranging in age from 8-16 years at the time of first application, and only one of the cats (Sylvestra) pulled them off. Sylvestra is kind of obsessive about grooming. For her, we applied bitter apple to the caps and distracted her with food, pets, and play for a while after applying the caps so she'd get a chance to get used to them. It took a few tries, but she tolerated them after a while.

The other three didn't seem to mind the caps at all.

I would never consider declawing, so it was wonderful to have softpaws as an option to prevent damage to my new husband's nice furniture while I retrained our cats.

Here's the softpaws faq page:

I just got an e-mail today from the company about their adding orange to the color choices because it was requested by many customers.

OK, glad to hear they don't bother your kitties. I could never put them on mine, though. IMO cats have claws, period. I would try to tackle the problem by giving them something more interesting to scratch. Well, cultural differences, ay?
