Hello! I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me the difference between a manx and Am shorttail/bobtail.

My newest addition, Midnight, is solid black with longish hair and no tail. When I say no tail; I mean no tail. He only has a little bone protruding way high up on his backbone, not down on the rump area at all.

I am afraid I don't have any pictures of him. The ones that I have taken just haven't turned out well because he is so dark and he isn't exactly cooperative about posing.

Any ideas are welcome.

Hi sorry I dont know the distinct differences between the two but the manx cats can be solid black this sounds more like your kitty, the american bobtail has a tail a short one but there is one there and they have ear furnishings( lots of long ear hair) so from the description I would say he is a manx.ChiChi and I send you all lots of kitty love.

I suspect that you are correct. However, never having had either one and after reading about both I am still unsure how this guy showed up on my doorstep.

Midnight just appeared one day and took over the front porch and most of the front yard. He never leaves. He will follow us around like a dog. He runs the other kitties off. He acts jealous because we have indoor kitties and he wants in so badly. But he fights through the closed door with Peter, I can't let him in. They'd destroy the house!

He also has a nasty little habit of nipping and attacking if you don't watch him. I guess he is here to stay, so as soon as I get the money, I am going to take him and have him fixed. Maybe his behaviour will improve.

We live in a small, rural, sparsely populated area and I know most everyone within a 5 mile radius and he doesn't belong to anyone that I know. However, there have been evil, irresponsible people who have dumped their unwanted animals off out here at night that we have taken in before.

That was how I acquired Duchess, a huge ancient Rottweiller. Bless her heart, she was so old that her teeth were worn off into the gums and she was so thin! The animal shelter wanted to put her to sleep because she was so old, but we decided to keep and care for her for as long as she had left. We had her about a year before she finally died during the night. But she was plump, well cared for, and very loved till the end.
