I know I've seen a couple posts on the problem of dry food escaping the bowl as it were, and I thought my own solution might help someone. This was actually meant to be temporary to keep the dog out of the food, but it works so well I might keep it.

Rubbermaid has a type of container called a "hi-top" which will fit back on the main container when flipped over creating a sort of a tray. I just take the top and pour the food either back into the bowls, or into the trash (depending on how long it's been out) a couple of times a day. This keeps about 98% of it contained. I do have a few escapees on the floor, but nowhere near what it would be otherwise. I have books and magazines stored in these to give them a bit of weight and make them sturdier. The top does flex a bit, but if the bins were filled right up that would stop that.

That is a very creative idea Cindy. Just look at your boy's beautiful tail. Amazing.

I don't have dogs, but I do use a kitty placemat- either a plastic cutting board or something else. My husband just but some placements with a ridge down at petsmart, they are working real well so far. I used to have a problem at my old apt when the food would get under the fridge. Nasty!
