With 5 cats I'm not sure which one is doing this.

I have really clean litter boxes, and I have the boxes all sitting on newspaper so I can catch all the extra litter that falls out. Well someone is using the newspaper as a litter box!

So I thought, well I'll take up the paper and clean and deodorize and see what happenes.. well they pooped on the floor!

I couldnt believe this, I have clean litter for them everyday and why would they want to go on the floor when clean litter is available?

I know cats might do this when their litter is really dirty and needs to be cleaned but thats not the case here... I'm not sure what to do.

Any advice would be very much apprecaited

You need to find out which cat is doing it and take it to the vet.
90% of the time, going outside the box happens because they are ill and trying to tell you.

I had someone in my house peeing on the floor and out of 15 or more cats couldn't figure out who was doing it. So I put each one by themselves in my spare bedroom w/ the door closed for 24-48 hours to see who didn't use the box. It worked and I found out who was doing it and took them to the vet and they did have a UTI.

To tell which cat is pooping outside the box you can put different color crayon shavings in each cat's food. Then, when you find poop outside the box all you have to do is match the color of the shavings in the poop with the color you fed the cat (i.e. fluffy gets green, rover gets blue, fido gets orange.....if you find green shavings in the poop you know that it is Fluffy who is the culprit.) Make sure you use crayons becuase they are safe to swallow, but even though they are safe, don't use too much.
