I am a little concerned about my newest kitten Pixie! On Sunday she had a "coughing fit" like she was trying to cough up a hairball but nothing came up, so I didn't think much of it (it happens to Pepper sometimes). But this morning I heard a noise and I was half alseep so I thought I dreamt it. Except when I got up for work I heard it again and it was Pixie, she gave a slight cough and went on her merry way. Just before I left for work she done it again, just a slight cough. She's acting totally normal, running around, playing with Pepper and eating her food. I've had her to the vet twice since I got her (August 23rd) for her shots, deworming and the vet took a fecal sample as well. The fecal sample came back fine, the vet says she's a very healthly kitten and is even at her ideal weight for her size and age.

Has anyone else's kitties had this?? Am I just being paro
?? I am taking Pepper to the vet for her shots next Saturday I was going to mention this the vet then (if it was still happening).

When we Pick zazu up from the spca He had URI and sneezed for a while. Does she have any discharge from her eyes or nose? If so that could be it.

Pepper Girl -- what you are describing sounds exactly like an asthma attack. My cat, Penelope, had attacks like this all the time and they would get pretty "scary bad." She got tested at a vet specialist and once she was confirmed as having asthma, she started taking inhaled medication twice a day. She's had no attacks since she started the meds. So, it might not be asthma, but you should probably take her to a vet (and actually, I'd recommend a veterinarian SPECIALIST, because they can read lung x-rays better and diagnose respiratory problems more easily than regular vets) to see what's going on.

You know I that thought actually crossed my mind this morning that it sounded like asthma. I think I am going to take her back to the vet. I'm going to keep an eye on her for a couple of more days, cuz today was the first day since Sunday I heard her cough. What kind of meds is Penelope on? Is it hard to give her the inhaled medication?? My Pixie is so tiny...she's my "little one"...I can't bare for her to be sick.

Penelope is on Flovent. It's really easy to give her the medication -- I use an Aerokat which is a nebulizer especially designed for giving cats inhaled medication. I always give Penelope a treat after she gets her meds and the treat plus the special attention from mommy -- well, she actually purrs sometimes when I pick her up to give her her medication! Here are some links which you might find useful:

It is possible that your regular vet may not be able to diagnose your cat's condition. I had to go to a vet specialist to have the testing done. You might consider looking for a vet specialist in your area or getting a referral from your regular vet if the regular vet isn't much help.
