do you need a bed for your cat?

Do you absolutely have to have one? No. They're nice, but as long as you have a blanket or even an old sweatshirt, something your cat can smell your scent on, s/he'll be fine.

My cats sleep on my bed with me, though not necessarily all at once. They cycle from my bed to the windowsill or other favorite places.

Most cats prefer an elevated perch, so if you do get a cat bed, don't put it on the floor. It will be ignored.

I have two wicker beds for my cats, and they prefer to sleep on the floor. But last Tuesday, I took my younger cat to the petstore, and he hops right in a bed! I find him in there all the time now. So they definately don't need one, but sometimes, its what they want!
I think a lot of us have stories of cats completely ignoring the beds we buy them.

mine kinda go back & forth - they tend to use the beds more in winter than in summer. but they like them!

Cupid has always seemed to just know when something I got him was his new bed, and he uses them until they're dirty and I have to replace them! However, he'll also crawl under a towel if I leave one on the floor.

My kitty usually sleeps in a few different places; his favorite pillow downstairs, in the bed with us, or on the computer chair. We got him a little kitty bed, but he doesn't sleep in there as much as he used to. It seems like every week, he finds a new favorite bed.

Mine have several beds that I bought them. There are nice, but evidently nothing to write home about. The cats much prefer my bed and are wondering when I am giving up and just let them have it.

Cat beds are just for spoiled beasties like Persians and Siamese. *Grin*

Kidding aside, Lucifer just goes to sleep on my bed, usually... though it's really amusing to me how he does it. None of my previous cats ever did.

He likes to stay up until I go to sleep, because then he can curl up just behind my knees where it's good and cosy.

The problem is that I'm a night owl and love to stay up late. And he's usually very bouncy and silly throughout the day, so he gets sleep-all-night tired a couple of hours before I normally do. But he's too stubborn to just go and lay down on the bed by himself.

So what does he do?

After giving a big, showy ol' yawn where-ever he is, he comes up to me (as I'm usually on the computer at that time of night), stand-stretches, and paws at my legs, yawning and purring summore. Then he looks pleadingly at me in an adorably false-angelic way. Sometimes I could swear he's saying "Tabs, I wanna go to bed. Please?"

If I pay him no mind at first, he'll sit there and repeat the pawing/yawning/staring routine either until it becomes very very clear that I'm staying up late for sure, or I just give in and decide to hit the hay. The second I lay down and get comfortable, he's up on the bed and already curling up behind my knees. I don't even get a meow of thanks for cutting my art time short!

At least he keeps my toes warm.
