Im 27-- 2 kids - 5 yr old son and 18 mo old daughter-- when im preggers my BP is thru the roof literally. I was on bedrest during my sons pregnancy from 16 weeks on-- that was not fun-- I managed to work until i was 37.5 weeks with my daughter using bp medicine. Both my kids were taken at 37.5 weeks due to my pregnancy induced hypertension. after i had my daughter ( i was 26 then) my bp didnt go down-- i ended up spending my one nite after my csection on a magnesium drip and being sent home with MEGA doses of BP meds. I took them sparingly for a month and quit. Iknow bad but i wasnt feeling any high bp symptoms-- my 8 week post pregnancy checkup they didnt mention my bp and i was too busy chatting with the nurses about how cute our babies were to ask what my bp was. It hadnt gone down. Went in for my annual today and my bp is still high. borderline stage 2 hypertension. yeah thats high. I have been watching what i eat and cutting back and going to the gym since Auburn was born. Im not hardly losing any weight. 10 pounds since Jan. Thats it. its hard but i try soo hard to not eat fatty foods and not over eat.

My dr didnt put me on meds again yet, he wants to see me in a month to see what my bp is then. In the meantime i am to use my bp machine at home (left over from my pregnancies) to monitor my bp at least once a week. he wants to see if maybe its white coat hypertension but he doesnt think it is-- he said that my bp has gone up from what it was at my post pregnancy 8 week check up last summer. It was even high at my october 2004 annual exam but he assumed ( and didnt ask) i was still taking my meds.

He changed my birth control meds so i start the new ones in 2 weeks and has got me monitoring and calling in every 2 weeks with bp reports.

i never imagined that i would have HBP before i was 30. Scares me soo much. My dad has hypertension, his sister, my aunt has had 3 strokes and shes 58-- her first stroke was at age 38.

i wish i could find neverland and move my family there i soo dont want to grow up anymore

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this so young. Life is not fair. I will say a little prayer for you and say hang in there.

I feel your pain......

I'm 24...my blood pressure is fine, but my cholesterol is through the roof...I instantly went on a low cholesterol and sat fat diet, and was on lipitor for a bit....

Its funny I didnt even eat that bad, and I'm not over weight....but because of my genes...from my mom and day (both with high BP and cholesterol)...I'm stuck batteling this health issue for the rest of my life......

Luckily though my family is riddled with high BP and cholesterol...the avereage life span of my family is 90...(no lie)......so thats good.....

no worries abut growing up...its ok...and just think about all the stuff for our problems out there now......there will be twice that when were in our 40's...so maybe we can beat this in time........

Good luck...watch your salt instake....and lots of vitimin C..(shown to lower blood pressure and cholesterol)

Just try to remember to take some time to relax as stress is as much of a cause of HBP as diet.

You have two wonderful children who I'm sure love you dearly!!! And you always have everyone to talk to at TCS!!!

Hope you are feeling better soon!

That's why they call hypertension "the silent killer." My experience has been that once your blood pressure is up there --- it's up there. But I'm almost 20 years older than you are.

Mine had always been pretty much text book 117/68 until the summer of '02 when I had to start dealing with my stubborn mum trying to get HER to go to the doc (for what ended up to be a blood clot in her leg, that turned into a weeklong hospital stay). Checked my BP in one of the machines at the drugstore and it was HIGH (like 190/110
!) Went down to the nurse to get it checked every day for a week (I was working a summer job) and it STAYED high. Made an appt. went on BP meds (atenolol) and got it down to something reasonable, although not where it was before. I hated the way the atenolol made me feel though. I was sleeping 12+ hours a day and getting absolutely nothing done. I weaned myself off of it but my BP went right back up, although not as high as before. I've since found a new dr I like better (my old one was so frenetic I'd tense up as soon as she walked in the room!) and she's put me on lisinopril which I like a LOT better. Last time I checked my BP it was 127/72 which is about right for my age. Of course it would help if I'd lose about 30#
.

I was having some symptoms the first time around, headache, fuzzy thinking, just felt like the top of my head was going to blow off. But the second time around --- nada. Moral of the story is you just can't tell by the way you feel.

Honestly?

i started walking a great deal, and my BP is levelling out now, really nicely. Also I eat a huge amount of fiber these days and my cholesterol is dropping significantly.

I also suggest WW, because they're all about eating foods that lower your risk of hypertension, heart disease, and cholesterol, especially the CORE system. It's also really easy to use.

Whatever the way you treat it, just get help and don't worry too much about it, it will only make your hypertension worse.

I have extreme "white coat syndrome", so probably have seldom had an accurate reading. When I needed a check for an insurance policy, they sent a nurse who specializes in getting accurate readings, and she did a great job. But it took a long time to get me calmed down enough to take the reading.

I was on The Pill for a very short time, and it put my bp through the roof. My doctor wouldn't let me take it after that.

Anxiety when you see the doctor, in his/her white coat, which causes your b/p to elevate.

My b/p is high, too. I connot tolerate salt. I found that as I tried to lose weight, I would use more low fat salad dressing (high salt/sodium), more pretzels and low-fat popcorn. Also the calorie controlled frozen meals are high. Check the salt in your diet!

And although your family members had stokes young, the fact that you are getting treatment will decrease the chances of a stroke! Best of luck to you, and remember, if you start feeling old at 27, you will be old a loooong time!
