Catnip information

If I plant catnip will it attract cats to my yard.
I live in a rural area and have seen few cats in the area. They all seem to be wild.
Any information would be appreciated.

It is my opinion (as I do have catnip in my yard) that the catnip has to be crushed or bruised for the cats to be attracted to it. Or they have to be really close already. Be warned, though...it is EXTREMELY invasive!!!
