Today, Lola and I are going to check out a new vet. With rising fuel costs and the stress of the ride, we're going to forgo our trips out to the suburbs to see our old vet, who is one of my dad's close friends from his pre-med. We really love her, but Lola doesn't weather the trip as well as Leo does and their new doctor is part of a feline-only practice and got quite good reviews. Their office is incredible, they are into holistic medicine and their entire practice is open, meaning that should one of my babie ever need surgery, I could be with them during the procedure (wearing my scrubs, of course!). Dr. Heidi (our old vet) understands and should a major emergency ever coincide with financially hard times, we'll find ourselves back with her as she is willing (but thankfully has never had to!) to work out a deal with me for emergencies and large vet bills. She lives in the city, but unfortunately her practice is out in a collar suburb.

Lola is getting a checkup. She's now 6 months old and has come off of some very tough health issues she had in early kittenhood, so we're going in to make sure everything is working the way it should. Plus, her growth is being monitered since she's so little and had such a bad problem with worms at the time of her rescue.

Wish us luck!

Loving my beautiful baby girl
This Vet sounds fantastic, Allie!
You must have really put alot of searching an evaluating to find this great clinic! I agree with you that a Feline Specialist is definitely the way to go, and you must be so happy about their background in Holistic medicine!
Wow, I've never known a practice that actually allows you to scrub up and be present during your baby's surgical procedure as well as routine appts. Splendid, this will make everything easier on you and your babies!

We're so excited for you, Leo, and Lola! Sure hope you and Lola have a great first appt, please let us know what she has to say about her new Dr. Sierra hopes she has as great an experience as she just had last week!

Good luck!
Which practice is it?
We've been going to Cat Hospital of Chicago on Irving Park for a year now and have been relatively pleased w/it. Now that we're in Bucktown I'm looking for a vet thats a bit closer, though.
Let me know which vet you're using and I might check them out in the Spring when the kits are due for their shots!

We went to the City Cat Doctor on Wells in what I guess is like the River North/Streeterville area. I looked into a handful of places, including Urban Vet. Care, Blum Animal Hospital, Lincoln Park Dog and Cat Clinic...City Cat was teh best because of the open clinic, heated, non-metal cages that are lined with real blankets and non-clay litter, and at least one doctor on staff who has a background in holistic medicine. We didn't see that doctor today, but the experience was good. Out of all of the place I listed above, City Cat had the most reasonable pricing as well, mostly due to the fact that certain financial considerations are given to multiple cat households. So we both qualify!

Lola's appointment went great! She's a healthy little girl except that she has some enlarged lymph nodes and soft (but formed) stool
Her fecal came out negative for worms, but some other tests showed a little bit of a...um...bacterial disturbance (it had a long name that I don't want to try to guess the spelling of) that may have caused the enlarged nodes and soft stool. We're pulling her off wet food for 10 days, which the vet said was ok since he really likes the fact that she's eating Evo (my last vet had never heard of Evo!) just in case the brand has anything to do with her stool and giving her an anti-biotic for those 10 days. When she's cleared up, we're going to re-introduce wet food and have a follow-up visit.

The clinic is nice...I got to walk through everything including the surgical suite and the iso room, even though I had to wear a mask for those rooms. The doctor was very slow and gentle with Lola...even though she's really good with new people, I was still happy to see that this vet knew how to approach cats. I also really like the fact that it's a feline-only practice. Makes it a lot easier for all of us! The staff was nice, the vet tech knew what he was doing (which in my experience, is not always the case) and it was overall a good experience. Lola is having a little bath now and it looks like she's recovered from the trip already!

Thanks for the vibes everyone!

Allie, that is wonderful you found a new vet that you are happy with. And that is really neat if you should ever have to be in the room for a surgery, you have that option!

(((healthy vibes)))) for Lola.

Allie-
Sounds like a great vet, and not that far from us--how's the parking situation?
We're in Bucktown, so anywhere in the downtown area works so long as I can drive--lord knows I'm not taking them on the El! Or the bus, even worse!
Glad to hear things went well!

They have a little parking lot in the back of their building. We took a cab yesterday because my 16-year-old sister thought it would be a great idea to ram our car into a parked car AND a tree. So needless to say, I'm carless right now. But I DID notice a parking lot exclusively for the clinic.

Here is a link to their website...I am so bad with names, but the doctor I spoke with and the doctor that saw Lola were two different doctors, and I liked teh first guy better (although the younger guy was by no means bad!). Anyway, you can check them out here:
