My new kitty, Trixie has been confined to my spare room for a week now due to having earmites (currently being treated, but have returned!
) and exposure to UFI. My resident kitty Bella hasnt met Trixie yet but I have been doing the sock/blanket trade - rubbing on one cat and leaving for another to smell. Luckily I did alot of the trading before Trix started really sneezing (yes think she has UFI) and right after her 1st vet visit after being treated for the earmites. Yesterday they traded rooms for the 1st time (not seeing each other) but sniffed around for about 20-25 min and then left the room. Neither ate anything/licked anything or laid down.. just sniffed and left. Should I worry about exposure? When I found Tix's earmites had returned and heard her sneezing I took her to the vet right away this morning and am not letting Bella in the room. But should I stop the room exhange/smell trading until earmites and UFI are completely gone?
thanks

But should I stop swapping blankets/socks with the scent or is that not a big deal? And should I stop having them go in the others' room to sniff?

Yes, definitely keep them separate. When I got my new kitty from the pound, he had an upper respiratory infection...I had to keep him completely separate from my old kitty for at least 2 weeks. It's just as contagious as a human cold between humans. Not only should you not let them meet or smell each other's smell on socks, etc., you should wash your hands really well each time you handle the infected kitty. i had to put off the introductions for 2 weeks but now they're getting along just fine.
