Hi all,

I'm new to this site and was wondering if somebody could help me out with my problem. I have 3 inside cats and their urine smells so strong that it's hard to clean their litterpan. Do any of you know if there is something that you can give your cats that would help diminish the strong smell? Thanks so much for your help and I look forward to posting here.

Thanks

I have 2 cats and 2 litterboxes....I think it would help somewhat if you had more than 1 litterbox. The recommendation is 1 box per cat + 1 extra.

Are they fertile or castrates? Fertile smells much more!

They perhaps drink too little water? If they drink too little, the urine more concentrated and smelling more.

Try with a drink-fountain, Drinkwell or Cat-it. Many cats loves them and drink more than before.

Or have more different drinking cups at many places.

or those to be exact. Both are good advice. Perhaps you could also try a differend brand of litter?

The cats are all fixed. I might have to try one of those drinking things. Are they pretty expensive? We've been pretty happy with our litter, but lately the cat's pan is just got a strong odor to it. Is there one kind that you guys think is really good and help cut the odor down? Thanks for all your help and I'm sorry that I posted this in the wrong forum.

I always put baking soda in the litter and that helps. There are small boxed versions at the pet stores. They are nice and scented, but cost about $5 for a box the size of a small cola can. I agree with the comments on water also.

Yeah I do put baking soda in there along with lysol to help eliminate the odor. I just may have to give that water thing a try. Thanks

Please do not spray lysol on your litter! Cats have a really hard time with the toxins inside and you can do some real damage. Odor happens because the boxes are not clean enough, the food being fed is wrong for the cat, the cat may have health issues. You could be using the wrong litter- I have found the best litter around isn't really cat litter, it is Stall Dry that you put in horse's stalls. When the cat urinates, you pick up the clumps, then you swirl the sand with our scoop and the stuff in the stall dry absorbs the urine. (I have 12 cats). It works great. I never put anything in the litter itself- just to dangerous imo- and different smells will drive a cat away from her box.

Didn't realize that was bad for them. Thank you all for all your suggestions. We will see what happens. Thanks
