My persian is constantly getting his ruff wet. He was a show cat and so should be used to the cage waterer (can't think what it's called). Well I have him home and have tried various sized bowls and containers for water. The result is that his ruff is completely sopping wet on the front. Therefore it's matting and just icky.

I don't know what to buy as I can't find anything with a small enough bowl. He won't use a cage waterer here and plus my other cats don't know how to use one.

Help! What should I use now???

FluffySimba,

If your cat was at one time used to the water bottle, then he should have no problem going back to one. There is a website you can order from to get one on a stand (http://www.geocities.com/persianpal2001/index.html), or you can go to any pet store and buy a regular water bottle there (these will be the kind that a rabbit might use). To get him to start drinking out of it again, you can use the water from a can of tuna packed in water. You have to strain it well so you get all the tuna pieces out of it or the drinking tube will clog. You can mix the tuna water with an equal part of regular water to get him back to the water bottle. There is also a water "tower" made by Lixit (http://www.lixit.com/products/disp_prod.asp?id=940 to see a picture). You can't order directly from this site, but if you can find a distributor in your area you can get one from them. You might also be able to find them through an on-line catalog.

Good luck in your search!

bibs are good for a short time, like after you've bathed them ready for the show - but you shouldn't use them all the time

my cats dip their whole faces in the water bowl too, but I don't worry about it till they've been groomed for the show, and then they get a tiny tiny bowl so they can't get their faces wet - sometimes we use a tea cup
