Our kitten is 7 weeks old and has very wattery eyes, and often they crust in the corners near his nose. Twice he's woken up with his eyes sealed shut, and i've had to use warm water to get them open again. He shows no other sign of being ill and its worrying me.

Does he need a vet or can this be taken care of at home?

Please take him to the vets. Kittens should still be with mum at 7 weeks old, and they are so vulnerable, and if eye probs are left untreated, it can cause blindness. The vet will be able to advise on any treatment they need.

I'll have to convince my mom then, I dont want my sister to have to deal with her cat going blind. Thanks.

I thought that kittens could be taken from their mothers at 6 weeks of age. Thats how old he was when we got him

He just woke up again , his left eye was shut, and when he opened it his eye looked like it had a film over it. I dont think my mother will take him to the vet..

I hope you convince her and things go well.

The minimum age for kittens is 8 weeks, some people prefer them to stay with mum till 12 weeks

Make sure where he is sleeping is always clean too...could be the cause of the eye prob.
I`d surly call the vet and do whatever he suggests.

If his eye seemed to have film over it, it probably means that his 'third eye lid' that cats have is covering his eye. It is usually a sign of being sick. Your kitty really needs a vet quickly, they can go downhill so fast at that age.

Most likely you'll just need to apply an eye ointment twice a day and is normally dispensed by a vet - or if you got your kitten from a shelter they could likely give you eye cream, with instructions, as well.

While you're at it, the kitten needs to be dewormed at least once more if not twice, and assuming he has his first distemper shot, he will need 2 more each spaced 4 weeks apart. Then you'll be almost ready to have neutered

We took puddles to the vet yesterday. The vet said she had an upper respatory infection and put her on amoxilen(i dont know how its spelled sorry.) He also told us that puddles wasnt a boy but actually was a girl. She's doing well now, but my older cat cant be near her for awhile and keeps looking for her.

Thank you for taking this wee one to the doctor. Glad to hear she is doing better now.
