retching or non-productive vomiting in an older overweight male kitty

my big under cover lover is doing this dry heaving , retching kind of thing. also, he has super sensitive back . does anyone know what i'm talking about?i knew another cat who did this, she had to lightly bite the top of her front feet if you pet her back.

With the dry heaving, my guess would be a hairball trying to make it's way up. If this is the case I would either start giving him a tsp of corn oil a day or you can purchase several hairball remedy's at the pet store. If he starts showing any other signs like not eating or drinking as much or a personality change, I would take him to the vet.
With the sensative skin, if they nibble at you, it's more of a sign that he is helping you groom him. When they clean, they use their teeth. Most cases if a cat has a very sensative area of skin, they will react with running away or attacking.
