Hubby recently bought sashimi for himself and discovered that Mitts loved it. Not like chicken or anything else, almost in ecstasy over the raw salmon. It is very fresh here.

But what I would like to know is, is it safe to feed him this?

rarely and in small amounts I would think so (but I'm not a vet). Here is an article on foods/substances unsafe for cats (ahem folks notice garlic is included here)..scroll down to where it says raw fish: click here

If it isn't marinated it's fine to feed it every once in a while. Feeding lots of raw fish isn't healthy. Its' obviously worm free, since it's sold for human consumption?

My kits will get a small sliver of salmon or tuna sashimi to share, occasionally, if we order in sushi and have a bit of leftovers (doesn't happen too often in my house--we love sushi and rarely have any left behind!)
I give it to them ASAP--right after we're done eating ours--and if there's any in their bowl about a half hour later, it gets pitched. The two of them share one piece of sashimi which I chop up into very tiny pieces--and they love it, particularly salmon, which is also mommy's favorite!

A little bit every once in awhile won't hurt them so long as its just a tiny bit and you make sure not to leave it in their dish overnight to invite bacteria. Also, make sure you serve it to them in a ceramic or metal dish that can be run through the dishwasher--plastic bowls can hang onto bacteria even after theyre washed.

No marinade.
It's sold in all our supermarkets, so I sure hope it's for human consumption!

Thanks all. I will now try to keep the hubby from giving Mitts a whole bunch of fresh sea food.

But Mitts really loves it!
