Hi everyone, usually, I'd settle in and get to know my way around, but I am desperate for some help!!!
I have two burmese fur-babies.... beautiful.... lights of my life!!!
My boy is nearing 1 year old, he is the most intelligent cat I've ever known, but i am sure that has someting to do with the fact I have taken him everywhere with me since day 1. We're very close. When I started working, he was lonely, I also had the inclination to make more of him!!! So I bouht a little girl. She's a delicate little flower, but very naivem all she wants to do is kiss and cuddle!!! Shes around 7 months, but still to small to allow her to become pregnant.
It was tough at first, Kahlua (my boy) is sociable with people but not animals and he despised her. but after a while he took to her and they fell in love! Always cuddling up together, grooming each other, playing. When she came on heat, it was hard, but neither knew whatthey were doing so it was pretty safe and it didn;t last long... then they learned how to!!!! I've never seen a female cat act this way!!! She wanted him badly!
Since then, he does not let up on her, this about 2 months. He constantly chases her and bites her on the neck, to the point she has a massive scab. She fights back once she gets free, but still it is damaging her.
When he does it, it is like an attack.... he lets a high pitched screeeech out then latches on to the poor little frightened girl. It drives me nuts! Nothing I do stops him from doing it...... I don;t know how to protect her neck.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Is his behaviour normal?
He isn't the sweet baby at all any more, he doesn't even play.... he just moans all day (between attacks)
I'm getting desperate!!!

someplace so boring i am slowly but surely losing
I think now that you have mated them, you could neuter the male so he'll leave her alone, and after the kittens are old enough, spay the female. When they are homed, make sure their owners, or you, if you keep them, have them fixed. There is no shortage of kittens. However, back to the point, if he is neutered, he should leave her alone, or at least, not bother her in that manner. If he doesn't, seperate them until his hormones get back to normal. They should be able to be friends after all that cuddling!
Hopefully helpfully,

Neuter him and spay her. She is probably pregnant already if she has been in heat already. 7 months is WAY to young to have babies. So alter them both and go to your local rescue and find a beautiful, similar looking kitten to rescue instead of being irresponsible and adding to the overpopulation problem by allowing your cats to mate.

You will probably have to keep them seperate them from now on if you don't want to alter them. My male will bite at my females neck untill she scabs as well. They are very driven when left whole! If you don't have anywhere to keep the male you'll have to build him a stud enclosure. If you have enough room in the yard that should work. Be aware though that male cats will call for a mate day and night. It might drive you and your neighbors nuts. Females will also scream and call for a mate when in heat. Females can go into heat 24 hours after giving birth. If you don't want all the responsibilities of being a breeder (of which there is many) I would strongly suggest you alter both of them so you don't have them moaning, calling and spraying all over your house. Many breeders don't even own studs because of that reason some just get stud services.

I was assuming the poster wanted to breed them but that the female was just still too young still. I was thinking that they were both Burmese since this is the Breeders corner.

Yes his behaviour is normal, he has not only come of age but bred a female, and once they breed a female, kittenhood is basically all over. They are never the same again. Your two cats are going to have to be separated from now on if you do not want to have him neutered. My foundation male was like this. He would constantly harass the girls, whether they were in heat or not. He would have episodes of howling and would sometimes mount the other males, too. But he was an excellent breeder. I find that the best, most reliable studs are the more aggressive, early-maturing ones. Unfortunately these seem to be the ones that spray more too.

If you are a registered breeder and these two are a breeding pair then they should be seperated and the male penned if he is agressive.

I'm a new breeder with a small cattery. There is no way I'd keep a whole male unless I could build appropriate stud quarters. Also males need to have enough females to keep them happy. If they don't get to breed then they will be more of a problem and one female isn't enough. As a whole male gets older they will start spraying more. The breeder that is workign with me keeps her studs inside as long as possible, this usually ends at a year when she has to move them to outdoor enclosures. Keeping a whole male is a lot of work.
