For the past half hour I've watched Red Cat laying in wait for a mole. It was only about six or eight feet out from my sewing room window, so I had a good view. This is the first time I've seen any of my cats after one, though judging from the marks around the mole tunnels, I'm sure it has happened many times. My yard is just totally over run by moles, so I was hoping he'd get the thing. It was so interesting watching RC, the musculature when he was getting ready to pounce. It's coming . . . it's coming . . . POUNCE!

Dang, he missed it.
He went immediately to sharpen his nails on a nearby piece of landscaping wood. He is probably cussing me right now.
I just took him to the vet tech to trim his nails a few days ago. She trimmed them a lot, far more than Purdy and Sheba's groomer trims theirs. He may have got the thing if he had his long sharp nails. Poor RC. He gave up and decided to come in for the night.

Better luck next time, Red Cat. You can kill all the moles in this yard you want and mommy will be happy!

One of mine (don't know which) brought in a live mole a few months ago and set it free in the living room. I managed to catch it and let it go in the field - fortunately here I don't have a proper garden to worry about!

Your black cat looks identical to my Max who passed in July. All three are beautiful, but that black one stole my heart.

I don't let that little black cat, Sheba, out to hunt any more. She is too good a hunter. Within one hour a few months ago she delivered two dead birds to me, one to the garage and one to the back door. She came from an outdoor colony, so she tries to escape out every chance she gets, but so far I've managed to catch her rather quickly most times.

I've had Purdy and Red Cat for four and six years respectively, and in that time I've only seen evidence in the yard/area that they might have got two birds. I can accept that casualty rate, but not two in one day! The boys may try for birds, but aren't very successful. Red Cat is great on the rodent control, though. I've seen him with many a rat, as well as mouse. Unfortunately, that has meant worms a few times. And it means that he is he is back up to 15.35 pounds, even though I've had him on a diet. "If you aren't going to feed me, mom, I'll just go catch my own."

Purdy can hunt if he wants. At least he managed to support himself and still weighed ten pounds after I saw him running around the area as a stray for at least six months before I adopted him. But he knows a soft life when he sees one.
When I let him out, he typically spends most of the time curled up on the porch.

Aren't they fascinating when they're waiting for a chance to pounce? I feel sorry for the prey, though, whatever it is.
