I don't know what to do. Every morning there is a pack of dogs in my yard. I usually hear them and run them off. Not this morning. I blame myself. If I would have looked out to check on them more my little black and white baby would still be here. My eyes are swollen from crying. I don't know how much longer I can do this. About 2 months ago I found one in the road dead. Someone had hit him with a car. I spend so much money and time on these cats and then it seems for nothing. I spent 2 days making them houses that are warm. I really love them and I hope they know it. Thanks for letting me have a place to type out my feelings. It helps a little knowing I am not alone.

It's a dangerous world out there for outdoor cats.....unfortunate things happen.
I'm sorry for your loss, sounds like you are trying your best to keep them safe.

I am so sorry that this happened. My heart goes out to you.

I am going to move your thread to The Bridge forum which is a special forum for people who have lost their cherished furry friends.

Something like that happened to one of my first cats. Since then all of my cats have been indoor cats. I am so sorry. I wish dogs did not run loose like that.

Thats so sad, and i'm so sorry
This is one of the many reasons why people keep their cats indoors

I hope your baby didn't suffer too long

RIP little one
Play safely over the bridge with all the other kitties

My cats are all inside cats except the feral cats I take care of. I'm sorry I should have explained that. I was so upset after finding her laying there chewed up. She was so beautiful. I am waiting on pawprints to send vouchers to have them spayed and neutered. Anyone who feeds a cat outside please don't put it off. The small cats can't fend for themselves. The adult cats out here jump on the dogs scratching and biting, but even they wouldn't have a chance with 6-8 dogs after them. I have already ran the dogs off twice this morning. The chief of police told me they have a big problem with dogs here. The problem is they were watching scary movies on tv. He told me to shoot the dogs in the bottom with a bb gun. Then they would try to pick up the female dog in the pack, because she was the problem. Stupid solution. I don't know what to do. I have tried everything. Thanks for your sympathy. I really appreciate all the notes I got. Most people here say its just a cat. Get over it. Yeah right.

In here, there's no such thing as it's "just a cat". Your feral friends definitely knew you loved them for as long as you were taking care of them. Don't blame yourself... I really hope something can be done bout the dogs running wild. My sincere condolences

I am a dog lover, but even I am aware that a pack of dogs running together is very dangerous, to kittens, cats, and children. You and your neighbors need to get together to complain repeatedly about this problem. Maybe even write a letter to the paper, asking if they are going to wait until a child is killed, or take care of the problem now.

Condolences on the loss of your little kitten. He is at peace, now. I know how hard you are working to protect these cats. Don't give up, remember all the little ones you are saving! Never let evil triumph over good. What you are doing is saving cats. Someone left those cats out to fend for themselves, and caused this problem, now you are trying to fix it.

Someone also left those dogs out to fend for themselves, but they have joined together into a pack. Help them by pushing for them to be taken care of. Unfortunately, unlike feral cats, the dogs will probably need to be euthanized. Stupid owners!

I am so very sorry for your loss but please know that of course they know that you love them - they know because of everything you are doing for them - you are showing them love when no one else would

Condolences on your tragic losses...what a terrible fate for your precious feral babies. A pack of dogs is truly a different group of beasts than each dog individually, and as Beckiboo said, a horrible threat to other animals and children. What is especially troubling is that those dogs might be owned, and are let out early in the morning to "do their business in everyone else's yard, as long as it's not the owners', right?
I really feel bad for you knowing that you are amongst those kind of attitudes like "it's just a cat" which also tend to diminish the threat of a dog pack "hey, they're just dogs, doing what comes natural". How discouraging!
Rest in peace, little ferals...and {{{prayers & vibes}}} for the protection of your remaining rescues. Thank goodness that you are out there tending to them - you are their only hope.. Please let us know how you are doing - we all so deeply appreciate what you are doing for those kitties.
Hugs, Susan

Thank you so much. I haven't slept much since this happened. I run to the doors and windows every time I hear a noise.I have bb gun at the door. I won't injure the dogs, cause I love animals, but if it is out here after my cats I will protect them. It is sad the only time I could love on the little cat was after she was gone. Her sister is out here, just lost. They always curled up together. They never really associated with the others. I had just made them warm beds for the winter the day before the dog got her I was outside talking to her. Telling her I made a bed especially for them. I separate the food and water. Some of the cats don't except them. Not sure why. I am doing the best I can. Hope it is enough. Please pray and I will put you in my prayers. I am not too proud to say I pray. Lately I have prayed a lot. Y'all are sweethearts. Yeah I'm from Oklahoma

Darla--I am so sad for you and those little cats you're working so hard to protect. Packs of dogs are dangerous. We had a pack like that in my hometown a few years ago. They killed my neighbor's little dog (which was about 19 or 20 years old!) and attacked other animals-the last straw was when they attacked a child, who fortunately was not badly injured. But that did it, finally. We don't have a dogcatcher in our town (too small!) so we sent to a larger town a few miles away--the mayor asked for their help. So they came over and I'm glad to say they rounded up those dogs and took them away. They were just too dangerous, roaming around and attacking both people and pets. I hope maybe something like that will happen where you live--maybe people will do something if they can be persuaded that these dogs sooner or later WILL attack a human being--probably a child since they're smaller and more defenseless. (OOPS! I didn't mean that I hope a person WILL be attacked where you live--just that those dogs will be sent away BEFORE that happens!!) And again, I'm so sorry for your loss. At least these feral babies knew that you loved them and wanted them. And you have been trying the best anyone could to protect them--honestly I think your local government is letting you (and your neighbors) down. It shouldn't have to be your job to stand around with a gun to keep those kitties safe!!! Sorry, but it's making me mad that all of this responsibility is being dumped on you
--I don't think it's fair to you. PLEASE do not blame yourself for anything--you are already doing a magnificent job! It's not your fault that the world can be such a heartless place. Bless you for taking such wonderful care of these cats and kittens--you are truly their guardian angel. And yes, I will very definitely be praying for you and your babies--all of them! God bless--Patti
Little kitties, RIP. Now you are healthy and free and will be happy and loved forever--run and play with all the other kitties, they're waiting for you!

Darla,

My heart goes out to you. I am so sorry about the loss of your little ones. Losing a cat, feral or indoors is terribly heartbreaking. Talk to that little sister of hers and try to give her some extra attention. I also care for feral cats, but my problem isn't dogs, it's three raccoons. I can't tell you the amount of time that I have run to the back door to check on them.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Your cats are very lucky to have someone like you to take care of them.

I had skunks last year in my yard. One took off with one of my kitties and shook it but we chased the skunk and it dropped the baby. The kitty was okay but I named her skunky.I called animal control and they basically did nothing. They moved on but I keep looking for them back. Thanks to all of you for the inspiring messages.
