Hi everyone,
I have 3 cats and they are slowly taking over my home! At first it wasn't so bad, I even have an area set-up for them in my laundry room, but their smell is creeping into the all the rooms on the main floor of my home! I have tried a few air fresheners and stuff, but I can still smell them! It's not so much kitty litter odor, just a cat odor. Please help!

I can't understand it. We have 2 cats and 2 litters which are cleaned a minimum of once per day and we have no cat odor (Just to be sure that we have not just become immune to the odor, I've asked other people I trust when they came to our home if they smelled the cats and they said definitely not.)

Do you have enough litter pans (one for each cat at least, plus an extra)? Are they being cleaned at least once per day? With 3 cats I would probably clean more often.

Is your house damp/humid-running a dehumdifier should help reduce the odor.

Some people seem to be very sensitive to various smells and notice odors when others don't.
Perhaps you're one of those people???????

We had a house guest for most of this summer. We know none of our kitties spray, and there are no "accidents" in the house - they are great, and use the litter/go outdoors - never an odor or issue with odors. But this house guest swore her room smelled like urine. We black-lighted it and found nothing. I used an odor remover, powder first then liquid, two weeks apart and it was never good enough. It just about drove me batty. I had a neighbor come by and asked them to be honest: could they smell anything? and they said "no, your house smells great. Do you keep your cats outside all the time or what?" - so who knows!

I clean the litterbox right after Marlee goes, or as soon as I get home. But still after she poops there is obviously a little smell. What is the safest deoderizer to use around kittens/cats?

How many litter boxes do you have and how often are you cleaning the litter?
I had two inside cats and one litter box for them. I was home all day so I always cleaned the poop out as soon as they did it. Every day, I scooped out litter that had been wet on and changed it out entirely probably every two or three days. I never had a problem with the smell What are you doing with the contents of the litter when you scoop it out. It needs to be put outside somewhere and not in a trash can in your house. Cats are much cleaner than dogs and you shouldn't be having that problem with odor unless one has urinated in the carpet and you don't know it. Once they do that they will go back to it.

I hope you can solve this problem so you can enjoy your cats.

I have three permanent cats and two rescues, with five litter boxes spread on three floors, and there is normally no smell. If I do smell anything I know one of the cats is not well. I also ask visitors and have been assured it is OK. I use electric air fresheners around the house, clean the litter twice a day, and sprinkle it with Canaillou pet deodoriser.
