hi,

i am new to the cat site. my fiance and i recently got our very first kitty about 2 months ago (a little less)...she is almost 4 yrs old. a beautiful long-haired calico named rosie with beautiful golden eyes that match the gold in her coat. i have always been a cat lover, and grew up with cats always in the house. my mom used to take in strays and care for them, even when they didn't have much time left.
rosie was spayed last tuesday, and we had to put the e-collar on her (even though we didn't want to - we tried an ace bandage first, which didn't work because it kept sliding) because she was starting to bite, lick, and pull at (actually pluck!) her stitches. her appt to have them removed is tomorrow at 4:15pm. i'm not sure if she will be able to take the e-collar off yet. (does anyone know if they need to keep them on after stitches are removed for a little while?) she is also getting her booster for her distemper shot, and more meds for fleas..... the poor kitty has been through a lot in the past month. her previous owner was not well-informed and said that she couldn't afford to bring her to the vet at all, for vaccinations or a spay surgery. she was also never home and smoked like a chimney, so we all felt better taking her (after the initial heartbreak of pulling her from her first home - we actually picked her up there). rosie has been such a blessing in our lives. i love her with all my heart, and am so glad to have joined this site to share my love for her and for all kitties!! we also have a lot of strays where we live, and my heart hurts for them all the time...i see i have a lot of info on that type of situation here on this forum, so i'm looking forward to learning!!

anyways, i can be a blabber-mouth, as i'm sure you can all see, but i just wanted to say,

"hi! i'm new!" .....really!!!

thank you all for the warm welcome!!
we are bringing rosie today to (hopefully) get her stitches removed from her spay surgery and to (also hopefully) hear that we can take this e-collar off her!!! the poor thing. she just tried to jump up on the chair to sit next to me (i work from home and have a chair and blanket next to me so she can be with me while i work.) and she completely bumped into the arm of the chair with her e-collar! we helped her up the rest of the way, but our poor rosie! i think this e-collar is somewhat traumatizing to her!!
anyways, i hope we can get those two things taken care of today so she can just be a kitty again!!

hi!

thanks everyone, again, for the very warm welcome.
you can tell what a loving bunch we cat folk are.
just wanted to also give an update on rosie....she was able to get her stitches out on friday! they said she healed "great" and we got to take that cone off her head!! she was so happy to have her head back.
i am so happy that all went so well. now i am worrying away about all the stray/feral cats we have outside....i think i'm going to post those concerns in a different area on the forums though.

thanks again, for your warm, warm welcomes!

Katrina - that's wonderful news about Rosie. I'm so pleased that it turned out well.

We have a great forum here for Ferals and Strays - with lots of great advice on there. It really helped me when we brought Adelaide in out of the cold last November.
