I used to belong to a Catholic singles group and tomorrow night am hosting a dinner for members of group. I'm really not looking forward to it and am now wondering why I agreed to do it, besides just trying to be nice. Aside from cleaning the house, it's not a lot of work for me because we'll just order pizza and others will bring salad, dessert, etc... It's the people that bother me! No offense to any of you, but there is a reason why some members of this club are still single. Some of them are just not very considerate of others. I've hosted these gatherings in the past and
have had people show up without calling to RSVP, just walk in the house without ringing the doorbell and then leave without offering to clean up. Last year, we had one guy show up, who took the bus, then demanded a ride home. He also spent a very long time in my bathroom, spilled soda
all over my then brand new carpet, and asked everyone a lot of really personal questions. Kind of creepy! I guess I volunteer to do this every year because I still have some friends in the group who are great and lots of fun. And, I just feel like it's the right thing to do to welcome people in my home, but I'll sure be relieved when it's all over. I always swear I'm not going to do again, then guess what happens. Thanks for listening!

It's probably like any club I'd guess. I know when we were active in a local Science Fiction club many years back there were DEFINITELY some people in there that we wanted nothing to do with. It's why we (it'd be my sister and I at that point) stopped hosting club functions and just went to having private parties where we could invite whom we wanted. And the thing of it was, these certain people never seemed to want to move on
. Since it was a very loosely organized group we had what amounted to a wild party one night at a member's house which included about 75% of the membership, decided we were disbanding, promptly re-organized and started having meetings at member's homes rather than a public venue (library meeting room).

Basically we moved and left no forwarding address
.

I don't suppose you could do that with a church group though. You definitely have my sympathies.

Thanks! I've thought about turning off all the lights and pretending nobody's home.

I still don't know how many people are coming tonight. I heard from a friend this morning that two guys are coming that never called. One of them is someone I had an argument a few years ago. I've been over since it happened, but I've heard he's not. I'm hoping nobody decides to stay too late. Please send good vibes that I make it through this evening as a charming, gracious hostess. It'll be tough!

How did the evening go, did you manage to make it the whole way through without too much stress?

It went really well and was actually a pretty pleasant evening. So, I got all stressed out for no reason. I tend to do that sometimes.

I know what you mean, I've had evenings out that I've dreaded and they turned out to be great fun!

Does this mean you're hosting it again next year?

Probably. And, when the time gets close, I'll probably be stressing out all over again!

I was wondering, but didn't dare ask in case it stressed you out again! I am glad it all went well.
