We've recently been giving our cats a choice between 2 different dry kibbles because one of the cats will suddenly decide she wont eat one and go hungry if we don't have it available and then switch a few weeks later.
One of the brands that she'll eat is called "performatrin ultra" which boasts cranberries as one of their ingredients. Can cranberries actually be good for cats or should we be looking for another brand?

yes, as moggiegirl postedd cranberries are beneficial to the urinary track. one of my dogs used to get chronic urinary track infections and we treated her with cranberry pills which were okay'ed by our vet. now i add cranberry to her food occasionally as a preventative... i have also read about cranberry being used to treat these problems in cats and people.

Ok, so it IS a good thing! Thanks
mom was concerned that it might be bad for them and that the catfood makers were making assumptions on animal heath based on human needs. We'll keep up with it then. Thanks again!

My understanding is that Performatrin is one of the better quality foods here in Canada. We dry feed Performatrin Ultra to Bijou and Mika. We're currently experimenting with several different good quality wet foods and so far they haven't liked anything as much as the junk quality although they are both such little piglets they'll eat anything if we leave it down for a couple hours.

They didn't like the Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul at all!

I don't know about the benefits, but I bought Abby cranberry treats once. She started gobbling them up and I walked out of the room. I went back in and and there was a ball of chewed up much on the floor. She actually chewed them and spit them back out.
I had never seen her do anything like that before!

Just one caution, I would not use a food with cranberry or a supplement with cranberry for cats with crf or suspected of crf when a diagnosis is not yet had. Based on felinecrf.org, it is believed to be "too acidic for crf kitties who tend towards acidosis.."

Sorry! It's suggested for cats for issues such as uti's or cystitis, but not crf
