I agree with the rest. A nice mixed bouquet would be appropriate. Maybe something like this ...

I think of a dozen roses as a little too romantic for a first date. Do you have anyone friends that are good at flower arranging? You could pick up flowers in the grocery store and have someone arrange them for you which would save you a ton of money and she doesn't have to know it didn't come from a florist

Come back for more flower suggestions later if it goes well. My list of suggestions would be endless

Did you know that flowers have meanings? Its become a lost art in this day and age, but in Victorian times, the woman knew EXACTLY what the man meant when he gave her flowers by the blossoms he chose.

For exampe: a pink camellia meant he was longing for you, while a white cemellia said he thought you were adorable. A yellow carnation says you have dissappointed him or rejected him, while a red carnation told the woman his heart aches for her.

For your first flowers, include a white camellia (you're adorable), an iris (friendship), a calla lilly (beauty), a red poppy(pleasure in your company), a variegated tulip (beautiful eyes), a yellow tulip (sunshine in your smile) and especially a white violet (take a chance on me). If you remember the meanings and can explain them to her, she might be impressed. I know a true romantic would be.

Nothing more beautiful in the world then a womens smile.

She really liked the purple lillacs.
I am going to make her dinner tonight. Thinking something like Italian food. She also likes to play Texas Holdem and we are going to play in a live game at the Casino.

Just want to say again thanks for the flower tips ladies.
Tracy and I are not getting enough of each other.
We both have some brutual duels against each other playing Texas Holdem.
She is a very good player and gives me alot of trouble. Sunday she took $100 from me playing live at the casino.
All good thow, never thought I would enjoy losing. But making this beautiful angle smile makes my day.

If she really loves flowers then she might also really picky (or knowing since she's probably gotten a lot of them) about them as well, so if I were you'd I'd make sure they were top-notch! It depends on if she's modern or old-fashioned as well. If she's modern she'd probably like a less "Happy Mother's Day"-esque arrangement and more of a sleek boquet with less filler. Maybe something like orchids, calla lilies, peonies, et cetera.

Or she could just be a flower lover, in which case anything pretty and flowery would work.
I wouldn't suggest getting something in a vase because the vases flowers come in are rarely something someone would want sitting in their house (mine always end up under the kitchen sink--except for one that was rather nice), and she'll probably have a lot of them already since she loves flowers. Plus, it'll give you a chance to see her house and chat while she's putting them in water.
