Today I learned that one of my best friends has passed.
He wasn't mine, and he wasn't a cat, but I loved him a lot.

Frodo was a little dachsund/cocker mix with a heart as big as the world.
When I would visit weekends at my best friend's house, Frodo was my 'date', he kept me constant company, and made me feel less of a third wheel.
He was always such a happy boy and took everything in stride, including the frequent beatings his much larger kitty brothers gave him.
He learned to approach all cats walking backwards.

Today I learned that on Sunday he started having a very hard time breathing, so hard they had to sedate him to keep him from panicking.
He was in congestive heart failure.
They ran tests and took pictures and discovered his heart was badly enlarged, he had advanced heart disease.

My friend made the decision to end his suffering.
She held him as he took his last breath.
He was 16.
He was cremated and his ashes spread in all his favorite places in the Cascade Mountains.

He was not my dog, but I loved him as my own.

Goodbye Frodo, we will all meet again some day.

Condolences to your friend on the loss of her puppy-boy! We've had doxies for years, and they do bond well with cats, don't they. My heart feels for your friend watching her little dog suffer his breathing problems - I sometimes get asthma and can attest to the horror, the awful feeling. She did the truly loving thing in letting her dog go over RB with peace and comfort, even though it must have been tearing her own heart apart....again, condolences to you all. But think of Frodo over RB, with as many kittens to love as he wants....Hugs, Susan

Oh, he must have a wonderful Mommy for him to reach 16 years old! Condolences to you on this painful loss, and to your friend as well.
