Mother cat may have buried her kitten alive

The family saved the kitten of a feral cat but it seems its feline mama knew the kitten was ill. It is now available for adoption - picture included with article.

Wow...that is crazy!

What a wonderful story! I sent an e-mail to the newsreporter - far too many reporters don't consider kitten rescues good copy. I hope & pray that not only does that little cutie find his true,forever home, but that this gets people thinking about how rough life is for homeless cats, and decide to spay or neuter all the cats that they can!

WOW, I never knew that a cat would do that. She must have been protecting the rest of her kittens, but it is still weird to me. Cindy my cat when I was younger had a litter of kittens, and one of them were still born, we tried to bury it, but she kept digging it back up and putting it back with the rest of her litter, she must have known that something was wrong, but she kept sniffing it out and bringing it back, thats why I thought it was weird. Well it was a happy ending!!Cool story!

New to me too. I think she as feral tried to protect rest of the litter.

Cat moms do often set outside a sick kitten (sometimes they care extra much for the sick one - but this is not the rule!).

And setting out the dying kittens would get predators near the rest - therefore, to save the other kittens - she buried the dying.

This is what I think happened here.
