As some of you know, I have been extremely sick the past two weeks with an "unknown type of URI". I have been having severe caughing spasms about 2-4 times a day/night.

Two nights ago, I woke up in the middle of the night having one, and after it was over I fell quickly back to sleep. When I woke up in the morning, I had a pain underneath my right breast. I thought I had just pulled a muscle.

Well, I have had plenty of spasms since then, but yesterday afternoon I was in so much pain. I couldnt breath, because I couldnt expand my chest. After dinner I had a spasm and I was laying on the couch crying and screaming. So my mom took me to the E.R.

The doc thought I might have had a collapsed lung, so I went straight X-Ray. They did 5 chest x-rays, and gave me a pain pill. He came in a while later and told me, my rib was BROKEN!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt expect him to say that.

He told me I didnt have pneumonia, but I do for sure have bronchitis. (which my doctor at the base has never actually diagnosed me with and I have gone and seen her twice!)

Worst of all, they said my rib is going to take a few weeks to heal. And there isnt anything they can do for it, besides give me pain pills. They gave me Lortab 7.5, which are okay. But it still hurts like hell! I have to sleep sitting up, it hurts to bad to lay down.

This sucks. I had multiple people tell me last night, this is God's way of telling you to STOP smoking. Which is another thing I am not supposed to do. Smoking slows down the healing time of my rib. So my mom Volun-told me that last night I officially quit... We'll see how long that lasts.

I could really use some get well vibes guys. Pweeeease! This has gone on for to long, and I am not looking foward to the next few weeks. I have already missed so much school. I have to get better. This is ridiculous!!

Lots of healing vibes coming your way!!

And as a fellow smoker...I can totally relate to how hard it is to try to kick the habit...been there too many times. I am sending extra vibes in your success in quitting!

! That's what I've always heard, that nothing could be done for broken ribs (or collarbones either, I believe) other than taping them up and doing a lot of groaning
!

Take it soft and easy so you'll heal quickly! No jumping jacks
!

Oh, Megan - you broke your rib coughing! Ouch!!!!!!!!!!! Healing prayers are on their way.

I quit smoking in January. I had the flu and my chest ached so bad that it was great motivation to quit.

OUCH!!!! I hope you feel better soon. Good luck on the quitting smoking. You can do it. If I can do it, (I am the queen of no self control), I am betting you can, too.

Oh no Meagan!
I'm going to say a prayer right now that your bronchitis clears up and that your rib heals. I hope you are feeling (and sleeping!) better very soon!

I was actually told before I left last night, that they dont wrap them anymore...ever!
They said the chest being compressed like that up's the chance of pneumonia. And since I already have bronchitis... that wouldnt be good.

I have never been a smoker however I do have chronic bronchitis which untreated can cause me to get the triple whammy of ear infection and sinus infection. (trust me you don't want that too!!)
As others have mentioned perhaps this is a good time to stop smoking!!

Megan, You know I am pulling for you and on the advice side, 2 things Really do stop smoking and you might want to withdraw for the quarter and just stay at home and heal up and go back to school after x-mas. Just a thought. You know how to get ahold of me when your dad fixes your puter so ur Ymsg. works again...UR buddy Howard.

Thanks doll!
I have actually already considered dropping a couple of my classes and keeping my on-line classes. I have already missed so much. I am going to go tomorrow and see how I do. The only thing that is bad is... I am supposed to be taking Lortab every 4 hours... and not supposed to be driving anywhere. I will talk to you soon!!

Ouch, I've had several broken ribs, I can sympathize!
I've never broken one coughing, but not for lack of trying, other, more embarassing things while coughing though

I hope you start feeling better soon, the only bronchitis advice I have you can't use because of your rib

Drink lots, rest lots, and smoke not at all.
