Once he is neutered he will probably become a calmer version of himself, so I'd suggest getting that done ASAP.  Also get him wormed and checked for fleas while you are about it...

I am actually determining it is not smurgling, he is humping the blankets and such :(  Hope once he is neutered he will stop as he gets a bit aggressive while doing this and that is not good when he is in the house and scares me.

Oh my! Do you have any idea how old he is? I'll just reiterate what everyone else is saying and tell you to get him fixed asap.

It will take about 30 days for all the male hormones to work their way out of his body so the behavior may not stop immediately. Just be patient with him and hang in there :D

I rescued two kittens that had been abandoned in a field from the FMHS.  They had been severely sick and malnourished.  But, the FMHS took amazing care of these kittens.  It took these little guys quite a while to "smurgle".  I let them do it in their own time.  The girl made it quite apparent by crawling in my lap and insisting on it.   The boy sneaks in and does it while he thinks I'm asleep.   It is amazing!!!!

So my male cat is 2 years old... He smurgles but he humps at the same time... He has already been fixed... So why is he humping? And how can I get him to stop?

This is an old thread that someone brought back to life btw.

Just shoo him away and say NO. You'll have to be vigilant but eventually you'll break the habit or at least slow it down.

Smurgling? I never heard of the word till watching an episode of My Cat From Hell (Jackson Galaxy).  My two female cats smurgle but my two male cats don't. Its kinda cute when my baby cat Mischief jumps up on my big bellie and smurgles then falls asleep usually while in the middle of doing homework lol.

Hi. Lit'l Awssul would like to let the other kitties know the while (Smurgling)
Adding a throat croak.
May put your human aback
But don't croak and smurgle in such a way
As to leave your Second Mom totally
Afraid you might throw up.

We have 2 Persians. One we have seen smurgling only when she was very young. The other is still smurgling all the time, not just daily.. They are both 8 months old.

She leaves blankets very wet.

Welcome to TCS. At 8 months, she is still young enough to need a comfort mechanism. She may grow out of it, but unless she is ingesting blanket fuzz, I would let her continue. At this point, attempting to stop her might cause worse behavior problems, such as peeing or pooping everywhere but the box.

It doesn't really bother me that much. I think it is kind of cute. She has chosen my favorite blanket. If I am using a different blanket she huffs at me. So, Sweet.

I was basically just curious if they ever out grow it?

Did you go back and read the whole thread? There are some cats that never outgrow it. Sugar and Spice are smurglers, the others are just knead and purr cats.

My beans doesn't suckle on the blanket. Her smurgling involves making biscuits and licking her favorite blankie till it's sopping wet.

She's 15 months now so I doubt it will ever stop.
