With two cats and one litter box, I end up cleaning the litter box twice a day. Problem is, every time I do, I have to open the garbage can which contains the old litter.

That smell is so much worse than even a very dirty litter box.

I was thinking about getting a Litterlocker but I don't really like the idea of having to buy refills for it all the time.

Is there anything else out there that would do the same thing without all the refills? (maybe using normal grocery / garbage bags?)

i buy Ruffies brand 4 gallon trash bags on a roll. i have 3 cats, 4 boxes and scoop 2-3 times a day. i use one bag every time i scoop, tie it in a knot and toss it. i take the trash out daily or every other day. by using the bags and tying them up in a knot it doesn't smell. i just toss the knotted bags in with my regular kitchen trash that goes out often. i hope that helps.

I reuse anything that will work as a plastic bags - the bags newspapers come in, grocery bags, produce bags, the plastic bag that our weekly bulk junk mail comes in, bread bags, etc., and just carry them out to the trash right away if it's a small bag, or if the bag I'm using is larger & there isn't much to scoop, I'll knot it off above the waste & reuse the bag at the next cleaning (I scoop whenever I notice something in the box). I like the idea of a litter locker, but there's way to much scooping going on in our house for that to be practical.

its kind of expensive and i would love to have one some day myself but i think about the best thing to contain the poopies is a metal diaper pail

i use those big plastic containers that some of the litters come in and put the scooped clumps in double plastic bags, and i can still sometimes smell it thru the plastic.

i dont know what size bags would fit the diaper pail, but someday if i can afford it and get one, i will let you know!!

I used to use Walmart bags and tie the poopies up and keep them in the trash in the garage...but they still smelled, especially when it was hot out.
What I`m doing now is using a little plastic container to scoop the poop into, take it to the garage and dump it into a coffee can til the can is full...then the whole thing gets thrown away.
I have several friends that keep me supplied in coffee cans. works pretty good...and FREE!
