Hello, We've just got ourselves a new cat. She's 1 year and 1 month old and a bit shy. I think she'll be ok though as she's already let us groom her and I was able to keep her calm on my lap in the car when we brought her home.

The problem is we've had her for 15 hours now and as far as I can see she hasn't eaten, drunk any water or gone to the toilet. The previous owner fed her dried cat food. So we've put some of that out with a bowl. There was a small brownish slightly liquidy mark on the bathroom floor. I don't know if she did it but I wondered if she had her period. The last cat I had was neutered so I don't know.

We're going to get her some wet cat food and cat milk to try and entice her to eat. Has anyone else got any suggestions?

Congratulations to your new companion to love and pet! In time she will love you back!

It is quite usual for cats not to eat or drink or do toilet the first 24 hours in new home. They are usually a bit nervous. When she does first time she wants probably to be alone and undisturbed, so she will probably do it in the night.

By the way, you know the litter, the food and the water should NOT be together? Especially not the litter(=her "toilette")

The brownish is probably she did vomit a little. Happens sometimes even with healthy cats - ours vomit sometimes.

Cats dont menstruate like humans do. So if it IS blood - bevare and watch out...
Do castrate her if you arent planning to have kittens, this is my advice.

Best is to dont switch the food to quickly. Try to give her in beginning the same food she had before. And switch in steps.

Good luck!

Thank you
It didn't look much like blood and she had had a busy evening so perhaps it was vomit. I remember my old cat having a spectacular throw up session on my bed once. I'll make sure everything's ready for her tonight.

Excellent!

She did ate dry food before in old home? Is this dry food brown? (they usually are brown) - then the vomit will usually be brownish too...

Congratulations on your new addition!.

Has she been to the vet for a checkup since you brought her home?, because it's always best to do that so they can give her a clean bill of health.

We wondered about doing that. We need to find out about her vaccinations as well. Being in Korea and not speaking Korean I have less control over sorting these things out than I'd like.

BTW, I've forgotten what a cat's nose should feel like. How wet or dry should it be?

Well both of my two's noses vary, sometimes their moist and sometimes dry. It's not dripping is it?!.

But i would try and find a vet if you can to get her checked out thoroughly if only to put your mind at rest because us mums worry about our "kids"
