I know I keep mentioning this, but it just means a lot to me. My 10th wedding anniversary is next weekend.

We are very private folk, our families are thousands of miles away, so the celebration is just us...but I decided I truly wanted a special cake to mark the occasion (mind you, I'm on a very controlled, lower carb way of eating, so deciding this was not a light decision. There are other things I simply will not eat at the meal where I have a thin slice of this cake).

We went today to our favorite bakery(from before my getting into my stricter way of eating), known in this area for it's wedding cakes, special occasion cakes and pastries. DH and I decided together on everything, and even though I know we will end up sending half at least off to work with him, and my slices will be darn thin, I can't wait. We ordered a dark chocolate cake with two layers - a vanilla bavarian cream, and a chunky cherry, with a rich vanilla frosting, decorated with multi-colored frosting flowers. I want to set up our camera on it's timer, and get a photo of us and the cake, to send off to family.

I know dh has a surprise present for me, and boy, do I have one for him
All I can say is I love Costco online, where one can find some amazing things at amazing prices!

That's it, I'm just getting as silly excited as I was the last week before we married. Silly me, it feels wonderful.

The cake sounds very special, Pat, but so does the whole anniversary celebration! I wouldn't call it silly to be this excited -- not by a long way! I think it's pretty wonderful that the milestone generates this kind of excitement for you both. Congratulations!

Awww Pat - congratulations to you and hubby. It's not silly at all to feel that way it's such a special anniversary.

Your cake sounds wonderful - like a Black Forest Gateau - yummy!

Have a wonderful day - it's so important to celebrate these milestone events. Are you going to a restaurant or having a special meal at home?

CONGRATULATIONS on your 10th anniversary. I`m so gald that you are both excited about this special day...Don`t let this scare you though, but it REALLY does`nt seem that long ago that we were celebrating our 10th...and this next March will be our 40th!!! Time truly does seem to fly faster the older you get...trust me on that!
Your cake sounds divine....feel free to send any leftovers my way....I LOVE chocoate...am already fat...so what`s a bit more lovely cake, huh?..In fact...why not bring it with you on the forum and we`ll all have a taste!!!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I will post back about the surprise/presents, and if I can, post a photo of the cake
I think one reason this is so special to me is also that I don't know how with it I'll be when we get to some of the other significant anniversaries (25 I expect to be just fine for, but gee...my 40th? I'll be 80...gulp!!!)

Ah no can do. I've lost 75 lbs and have more to go, and am pre-diabetic - only because of the diet I follow have I not progressed into Type II diabetes. So believe me I choose my carbs carefully!! This cake will be most carb worthy
but my slice will be thin.

I think it is wonderful that your marriage is very important to you and your hubby. Too often people do not value their marriages, and let their spouse know they really feel blessed to have them!

Congrats on ten years together. DH and I just celebrated 12 years! May you have the next 30 (and more), and the brain function to enjoy each day of his company!

Congratulations to you! Yup...I have a hard enough time keeping up with him as it is as he is one incredibly gifted person, so I will be popping lecithin, vitamin e, salmon oil capsules...
whatever it takes to keep the synapses firing smoothly here
