Under a stack of blueberry waffles.
I have a cat that loves to ride on my shoulder. Every time I come home, she hops on me and stretches out across my shoulders, purring loudly the entire time. She loved it as a tiny kitten, and stopped for a bit when she reached puberty, but now almost two years later, she loves it as much as she used to then (even if her change in size since then makes it a bit difficult at times). She will get off me when I "dock" at the cat tree, but only if she wants to. Otherwise, she'll just look at it as if to say "Er...what is THAT?" , and climb higher on my shoulder, as if I were standing chest-deep in rising tar.

She is very closely bonded to me, and fairly aloof with others. I am the only person that she does this with, and purrs when I pick her up (unless she wants to be left alone, then she tolerates it for a bit, then starts wiggling). As far as I know, she does not do that with anyone else either. It makes some people think that she's mean or "ungrateful", but she is very easygoing, and even if overstimulated or scared, will simply walk away, as opposed to clawing or biting. Does anyone else have a purring monkey?

That's hilarious, because I now have 2 cats that do that!
Serena will allow me to pet her, and pick her up whenever I want to, but if anyone else tries to, she gives them this horrible look as if to say "Back off!" My new kitty Cheyenne is like a little squirrel. She jumps on my back and crawls across my shoulders, purring the whole time.
I love when they do that, don't you?

There isn't a feeling in the world like it.

I had one cat that used to love to sit on my shoulders. He was a feral kitten who adopted me in our office building, and he used to spend his days either on my desk or across my shoulders. People got used to coming in for meetings and seeing me sitting behind my desk with a live fur stole!

I have two
Felixia and Mr Underfoot both love to sit on my shoulders and purr. Having a purring bundlle of love and warmth on the shoulders is wonderful!

I don't know about a purring monkey, but Mithril seems to think he is some cross between a monkey and a parrot
. When I am at my computer (most of the time
,) he will come over "mrrrrt" at me to signal he wants up so I'll flip up the keyboard tray whereupon he jumps on my lap, walks across to the other side, onto the chair arm then up to the back of the chair and across my shoulders, then down on the original side, and then do it again. Very, very occasionally he might settle down on the back of the chair, or on my lap with his head on the computer tray (if I've pulled it back out.) I get exasperated with him 'cause he won't light and the whole time he's doing this I've got this hugely long bottlebrush Maine Coon tail in my face
.

He's definitely a weird one
.

Whew! I'm sure glad my Red Cat doesn't do that! I don't think having
over 15 pounds of purring monkey on my shoulders would be too comfortable. I'm a little woman. It sounds cute in your case, though.

Mr Underfoot the shoulder monkey used to weigh 16 pounds - oof! But resistance is futile
- if he wants attention but I don't pick him up, he'll just take a flying leap right into my arms or onto my back. He's down to 14 now - much better.

Max is my little monkey, he'll take a run up from the floor and scale up to my shoulder as light as a feather, no scratches from claws, and sit or lay across my shoulders as I walk around the house. He likes to see things from my point of view, or sometimes he just uses it as a way to get onto higher surfaces (like the afore mentioned docking!) I think it's adorable!
