The death toll seems to be rising: http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapc...sts/index.html
Bali's tourist trade was just starting to recover from the last attack. Our news showed an ambulance driver who was in tears - he'd just recovered the body of a small child.

Didn't you mean to say *terrorists* and their goals?

It all boils down to politics in the end.

Very sad about the bombing. News like that is terrible.

What happened in Bali goes way beyond mere politics. It has everything to do with hatred and fanaticism.

Well, terrorism is a form of politics, unfortunately. I looked up the definition of "terrorist" to post: somebody using violence for political purposes; somebody who uses violence, especially bombing, kidnapping, and assassination, to intimidate others, often for political purposes.
So, politicians can be terrorists, and terrorists usually do what they do out of political motivation. So, I second the sentiment: isn't it sad what horrors people are willing to commit in the name of politics. But you know, you COULD just omit the word "politics", and just say: isn't it horrible what people are willing to do to others. Period.

I think that in this case, these particular terrorists are motivated more by religious fanaticism than any particular political agenda.

In a way, you are right. But unfortunately, they have perverted their religion into a political agenda.

Well put.

I'm interested in the discussion about how far poiltics and terrorism can be separated, and would just like to remind all of the situation in Ireland where Sinn Fein were the political wing of the IRA, a terrorist organisation that killed hundreds. Now we are all expected to think of the same people as good people, men of peace, forget what they did before, they are politicians now.

And people wonder why no-one in this country trusts a politician...

No, it's more like "no-one trusts a politician". And it applies to any country.
