The low cholesterol may mean that she is not absorbing her food properly. This would indicate a possible problem in the stomach. Have you had abdominal rads or an ultrasound performed?

Vet thinks low chol might be a sign of a fibrotic liver, despite normal AST and ALT. Abd Xray was normal and u/s is scheduled for Thursday a.m. I think absorption is clearly a problem since she's eating a pound and a half per day and losing weight, but I think stomach is OK so more likely small intestine.

I am sorry about your kitty
Sending lots of healthy vibes her way.

When Roo won't eat (she's 16 and hyperthyroid) I give her baby food meat, she likes the veal and lamb meat. Have you tried that on your kitty? Roo likes it better if I warm it up just a bit first.

We've tried that, but she's eating us out of house and home as it is! Although she DOES seem to like that yukky bland stuff...

Here's the latest; afraid it could be better...
Thursday she went to the internist who felt that an ultrasound would not be sufficiently diagnostic. She is so thin he's not very worried about a solid mass, but IBS vs. lymphoma are at the top of his differential. Friday she had an upper GI with biopsy and on gross he felt it was more consistent with IBS so we started prednisone and B12 at least until the histopath report next week.
Today however she is TOTALLY ataxic (labs at the vet were fine) although with a good appetite and tachycardic (180ish). She can't take more than a step before collapsing. At 8:00 the vet opens (her internist is out until Tuesday) and the emergency vet suggested we take her to our local doc; I'm not sure she'll survive that long. What an acute change! If it's pain, I can treat that but I think it's worse.
Thank you all for your vibes, your advice, your prayers. I don't think there will be too many more posts for Ripple.

My heart, good hopes, and all my prayers go out to your kitty. I know how hard this is and am sending all my good vibes your way. I'll be checking back to see how your kitty (and you!) are doing. We're all here for you. Youre kitty is so lucky to have such a loving mom that cares as much as you do.

First I want to thank everyone for everything. We took her back to the vet this morning and she agreed to try one round of IV fluids (against her better judgement I think, and I didn't want to be more aggressive anyway) but by midday Ripple had shown no improvement; maybe a tiny bit more alert but no change in her ability to stand or walk. She wasn't even able to blink effectively; the vet had to put moistening drops in her eyes. She has lost another six tenths of a pound since the 29th and was only 4.4 pounds today.
With no other options available to her, no improvement in her condition and no way to ease her suffering we did the only thing we thought we could and had her put to sleep. We buried her in my parents' rose garden this evening.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and vibes. I know we did everything we could for her and although I'm OK with it I REALLY miss her a LOT.
Boy, this is hard.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have been there. When my 15 year old cat, Petunia, slowly stopped eating. We searched and searched for what was wrong and there were no clues. I force-fed her and watched her wither away. And like you, I had to make that horrible decision to end her suffering. It was so frustrating not being able to figure it out and help her.

May you find comfort in the memories of your sweetie.

I am very sorry that nothing more could be done for Ripple and I know you will miss her terribly. Take comfort in the fact that you loved each other and that you did all the right things to protect her and to prevent her suffering any more.

I am so sorry for your loss - I saw your thread earlier but had no advice. I've been thru something similar with a rabbit - travelled hither and yon to find help o no avail. Take care of yourself and think of all the wonderful times you have shared with her!!! (((Tiffany)))
