The kitten is making a clicking sound when it breathes.... but it is crying, I'm worrying that this clicking noise is maybe fluid in it's lungs?? I've tried that downwards swing motion thing where the kitten is in my palm, but it still makes that clicking noise... SHould I be worried?

he seems to be doing fine now... he's nursing which is a good sign! Sozo (the mother) is still getting used to her kitten sucking on her nipple... I think they are a bit sensitive and it may hurt her a bit... she was hesitant to let him nurse in the beggining, but she seems to have accepted it a bit more now. But thanx for the help again, here's a pic of the new member of our family =)

We named him Pubah! =)

Oh how adorable! Is this the ONLY kitten that your mommy cat had?
If it is no longer making the noise, then it may have been mucus from being born that it had to get rid of .

Keep your eye on him- if he starts open mouth breathing- please get him to the vet quickly!

yes! it's odd, but my cat Sozo was only pregnant with one kitten! The vet said he had never come across anything like it before! Honestly I'm kind of glad she only had one kitten, becasue I would have wanted to keep them all if there had been more! We are keeping Pubah though =) !! But yes, he did stop making that sound, and he has been feeding all morning! He was born I think around 2 am and my boyfriend and I stayed awake to be with them just incase anything might have happened....

Now my cat sozo took him to another location where it's more dark, before I had her birthing box ( I changed the sheets after they got dirty) in a more open area of the room.. but she did have privacy.. Should I move her back to her box? Because she seems to be happy where they are now... and I can easliy get to her if need be.

Alright, thanx! I'll keep posting updates, and more pictures along the way!

Another question I have for you guys.... Are kittens supposed to feed all the time? Sozo the mother cat is constantly licking her kitten, and I don't see the kitten feeding all that much... He is sleeping and curls up around his mum but she licks him so much, I don't know if he gets a chance to feed as much as he should?

I'd let her keep her kitten where she wants as long as it's not a dangerous spot.

They should feed often. Is he crying? His tummy should be full and round. How old is he?

his tummy is pretty round.... he was born 2 am this morning. Now she leaves him in his spot by himself and comes to us meowing... we are on the opposite side of the room.. Is she supposed to leave him so much especially since she just gave birth to him? Sorry I've never had kittens before and I don't really know how the mother is supposed to react?

Grace hardly ever left her kittens after she had them.

I wonder if she senses something wrong with the kitten and is trying to *tell* you...I'd seek advice from a vet.

What a cute baby. Single kitten litters are very common, I hope your Mumma kitty will be desexed once this guy is weaned

Does she like having him in the box? that would be the safest place for them

I agree. Momma cats usually don't leave kittens taht young. My momma cat never leaves her new kittens not even to eat. Im afraid there may be something wrong with him.

he seems to be ok now... when ever we take the kitten away from Sozo (the mother) she cries.. I phoned the vet and he said she's just coming to us for affection and to stay with her all weekend.. which is what I was going to do anyway. so I don't think there is anything wrong with him... I went and got some kitten milk replacment just incase, so I'm sure everything will work out fine! My cat sozo'z nipples are sagging a bit now too.. which makes me think he has been feeding, but just not when I have gone to check...

sounds good. Yeah she's probably just a little confused at the situation and wants reassurence from you.

Yes, maybe she wants some mothering of her own. Keep us updated with the pictures and stories!

I've read several times on these boards of momma cats that are very attached to their owners wandering between the owner and the baby(ies) wanting the attention, but having the responsibility also...

Yeah she definietely is mothering her kitten, and is protective over him! The only thing that worries me... just cuz I'm a big worry wart.. is I don't get to see him feed.... Because Sozo has picked a dark corner for her nest, and because the baby is pretty much all black like his mum... it's almost always impossible to see if he is feeding or not... I have felt the kittens tummy, and it feels round... not bursting at the seams.. but it is round! And how soon do they start growing because I swear even though he's just about a day old... he looks a tad bit bigger now than when he was born. I was just assuming that since Sozo's nipples were sagging a bit that he is feeding. My boyfriend said he saw the kitten feed.. but again I dont know for how long the kitten did feed.... I just want all the best for Pubah (kitten). Jeez I'm so stressed... =P

If you have a small kitchen scale, you could weigh the kitten every day. If he is gaining weight then he must be feeding.
