Hi guys,

I don't know if this is the forum I should be posting this in (sorry, mods, if it needs to be moved, just let me know)...but I figure it might get the most looks.

I went for a consultation on laser hair removal the other day. While pricey, I am a hairy gal (1/4 Italian + 1/4 Scottish = 1/2 Hair) and want to desperately get my legs and pits done!

So I am doing the math and all and thinking well in 2 years, I'll be hair free, for the rest of my life I won't be spending thousands and thousands of dollars on exfoliants, lotions, shaving products, depilatories, waxing on special occasions, etc.

And yet, there is a part of me that's like - Tar, you're being a dumb-a$$!!!

So let me ask - would you consider it? And if you have done it (even for like facial hair or something), was it worth it?

OK sorry for the ramble!

I say go for it, it's not cheap, but it is permanent. When I worked at the plastic surgeon's office I had laser done for a couple little veins and while not exactly painless it wasn't that bad! How do they charge, i.e. length of treatment? How many treatments did they tell you you'd need?

I've never gone for the laser hair removal thing but it seems like a permanant solution..even if it is expensive. As long as you are sure that the place you're going to is safe I'd say go for it.

Well here's the kicker. I went for a consultation for several "regions" and they were like "Normally it costs this much but..." Then they start giving you discounts, throwing things in for free. Then they offer financing which is really nice...I had lasik done a few years, would not trade it for the world and opted for financing and though I ended paying a bit of interest it was sooooo worth it, every penny spent. But this is more a luxury thing.

Anyway the financing...I would have to budget. And I could do it. It's just...ugh...

But the length of treatment, I'm basically paying for 2 years worth, minimum 6 visits but for me, it would take prob about 10 which would all be covered.

I am at the point where I hate shaving, hate trying new products, hate waxing and hate the time and effort it takes.

Never thought about laser hair removal... I guess if it's safe then it sounds like a permanent solution you're looking for.

Is "lasik" laser eye surgery? I've often thought about that - I just don't know if I have the nerve
How was it? Painful? Feel free to PM me the gorey details if you can't post them in public

LOL -- yes LASIK is laser eye surgery...no gore involved LOL. It was actually quite painless and they chill you ever so slightly with valium :-) I don't know if I would have been flipping out, but when the speculum props your eye to stay open...I was squirming but it wasn't bad.

In fact, the guy next to me in the "prep" room (they "prep" you with gallons of eye drops) was all macho like "I don't need any valium." And the nurse was like, "Trust me, sir. You will!" It was pretty funny.

Not painful and worth every penny. I can see 20/20 now. And believe when I say...my vision...was BAD!

I've had my underarms and bikini line done. I'm glad I did it, but I would by no means say it's permanent, speaking both from experience and from reading other people's experiences online. I'm going to have at least one touchup treatment done in the spring (it's been a little over two years since I had it done.) It has definitely decreased the hair, but not completely eliminated it, which seems to be the case for most people. You do need to follow the proper schedule (IIRC it was every 6-8 weeks) to get the most benefit, rather than having a treatment here or there when you can afford it.

You might also want to research electrolysis--I started with this and ended up switching to laser because it is so time consuming and more painful, but it has more history behind it and if you have a skilled technician, definitely is permanent. You do have to be willing to put in a lot of time and put up with a lot of discomfort though. The laser wasn't too bad for me, and is very quick so even if it's painful at least it's over fast! :-)

Movin' on up!
I'd go for it. Actually, I've been researching this, for myself. I've managed to keep my upper lip clear, with Sally Hansen Wax Strips but, under my jaw is a bit more work. Since I'm fair-skinned, they say that it won't take too many treatments and will work well for me.

I say, go for it!
I'm a hairy girl, too, & it seems like the older you get, the bigger the battle with hair! I would love to get my face done-the upper lip, especially.
It would be soooo nice not to have to shave, pluck, bleach, etc..
