I think my cat is having an allergic reaction to the bag of cat nip he ate. I came home yesterday to find him laying in the middle of the floor covered head to toe in cat nip. The kitchen was coated in the stuff too. He did get sick last night. When I got home today from work today I noticed that he has a bald spot on his face (I think from scratching) and the skin around his eyes is very pink/red. He is licking and scratching him self everywhere non-stop! Has anyone ever heard of a cat being allergic to catnip before?

No, but catnip is very strong drug. If they sniff a little many are going almost crazy doing the most funny things including scratching and heavy licking themselves and rolling around in every imaginable and unimaginable way.

He was drowning in catnip.

OK, it may be a allergic reaction, but you self believs he scratched himself.

I suggest you bathe him with good schampoo and rinse thouroughfully. After that clean the kitchen thoroughfully and air out.

And no catnip unless very small doses.

You and your cat vere lucky after all.

Do thank God.

Emily regularly OD's on catnip if I let her get the bag out of my hand. Just give a pinch at a time.
